So after a brief warm up over the past few days, we’re now facing yet another round of winter weather throughout the next five days. Winter storm warnings and high wind watches are in place for many counties in western North Carolina and West Virginia. I was at Snowshoe Monday and Tuesday and was amazed at their snow pack. In fact, this morning, I looked at a model from NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration that showed some parts of northern West Virginia and western Maryland that have between 50 and 75 inches of natural snowfall on the ground!

The past two days I spent skiing and talking about skiing with a lot of great ski instructors from resorts all across the Southeast and Mid Atlantic who came to Snowshoe Mountain for a PSIA clinic and exam. PSIA or the Professional Ski Instructors of America is a not for profit organization that creates and maintains the standard for all ski and snowboard instructors across the United States. As an instructor myself, it’s important to stay educated and up to date on every aspect of snow sports instruction. These events take place regularly at various resorts and are always fun. I skied with instructors from Massanutten, Canaan Valley, Appalachian Ski Mountain, Beech and Sugar Mountain and several others. I highly encourage anyone who teaches or is thinking about being a snow sports teacher to get involved with this organization.  If you’re looking for the best instruction for skiing or snowboarding be sure to visit your resorts ski school and ask for a certified instructor to help get you going.

I had a great time and can’t wait to get back up to Snowshoe and speaking of Snowshoe I hope you guys are making plans to attend our 2010 Summit at Snowshoe this March 5,6,7.
