So after a brief warm up over the past few days, we’re now facing yet another round of winter weather throughout the next five days. Winter storm warnings and high wind watches are in place for many counties in western North Carolina and West Virginia. I was at Snowshoe Monday and Tuesday and was amazed at their snow pack. In fact, this morning, I looked at a model from NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration that showed some parts of northern West Virginia and western Maryland that have between 50 and 75 inches of natural snowfall on the ground!

The past two days I spent skiing and talking about skiing with a lot of great ski instructors from resorts all across the Southeast and Mid Atlantic who came to Snowshoe Mountain for a PSIA clinic and exam. PSIA or the Professional Ski Instructors of America is a not for profit organization that creates and maintains the standard for all ski and snowboard instructors across the United States. As an instructor myself, it’s important to stay educated and up to date on every aspect of snow sports instruction. These events take place regularly at various resorts and are always fun. I skied with instructors from Massanutten, Canaan Valley, Appalachian Ski Mountain, Beech and Sugar Mountain and several others. I highly encourage anyone who teaches or is thinking about being a snow sports teacher to get involved with this organization.  If you’re looking for the best instruction for skiing or snowboarding be sure to visit your resorts ski school and ask for a certified instructor to help get you going.

I had a great time and can’t wait to get back up to Snowshoe and speaking of Snowshoe I hope you guys are making plans to attend our 2010 Summit at Snowshoe this March 5,6,7.

Those of you that attended our recent Beech Mountain Summit no doubt had a blast. We had great weather and it was definitely a party atmosphere with all the people there. Snowshoe will host the 3rd annual Summit. We’ll be giving away new fleece beanies, free Sunday lift tickets, and free food at the Saturday night après ski party. Also get $100 off lodging with a two night stay.

This is a GREAT way to meet up with fellow ski and snowboarding enthusiasts from all across the Southeast and Mid Atlantic and YOU ARE INVITED.

Simply call Snowshoe’s reservation line TOLL FREE at 1-877-441-4386 and make your best deal for lodging and mention the SPECIAL SKISOUTHEAST.COM CODE (MWD100) and you’ll get $100 OFF!

Be sure to visit the summit pages for more news of some of the fun planned for that weekend. We’ll be doing some snowmobiling, making some turns with new and old friends and even getting on television to Charlotte’s NBC 6 Meteorologist Brad Panovich!

Come join the fun…

We’re on day 86 and there are 51 more days of opportunities to enjoy the snow for the 2009-2010 ski and snowboarding season!

That’s it for today. Go enjoy the snow! Check out the Snow Report at and please send us your favorite ski photos, ski videos, trip reports and comments to [email protected]
