A Snowy and Windy Tuesday! –

Stay up to date by getting notified of new posts!

Snow has been falling for most of the last 48 hours and storm totals range from 5" at Wolf Laurel to about 11" at Sugar and Ski Beech. Beech reported another 3-4" up there…as did Sugar Mountain. It’s hard to debate any reported figure because the wind was howling! We saw gusts just under 50mph here and thankfully those seemed to have calmed down some this morning. It’s snowing pretty good right now and the forecast is for snow pretty much all day. We could see another couple of inches more in the way of accumulation.

We added another inch of snow here at our office location and that takes us to 10-11" of snow over the last two days.

Reports were that last night was some of the best skiing of the season. Some of our crew was up at Sugar last night and they all reported sweet conditions. The wind began to kick up at about closing time last night so if you are planning to ski today or today, BUNDLE UP and wear layers. Wind chills will be near ZERO. The temperatures as of 8am this morning ranged from 11° up at Ski Beech, to 15° at Sugar. to 18° at Appalachian and all areas are reporting continued snowfall.

We are seeing some sun pop through as of this writing so additional accumulations will probably be on the light side.

Photos and Videos – We added some more photos and videos last night and we’ll try to get to posting more today. If you can…please send us your snowy shots of today to: [email protected]

Base Depths and Season Snow Totals – This particular cold and snowy snap has really been helpful to conditions at all of the resorts. We MAY be seeing the best conditions of the season all this week…and it’s the first of March! Here’s the lowdown on season snow totals:

Appalachian – 24"
Cataloochee – 36"
Hawksnest – 42"
Ski Beech – 53"
Sugar Mountain – 45"
Wolf Laurel – 28"

That’s way under NORMAL for an entire season but conditions right now are phenomenal and will be great for this entire week and into the weekend. The forecast is for highs in the 20s and 30s through Friday…and lows in the teens and 20s. Snowmaking and natural snow we make for pristine conditions throughout the period. According to long range forecasts…the next couple of weeks could be our coldest and snowiest.

THINK SNOW AND MAKE PLANS TO VISIT YOUR FAVORITE SKI AREA FOR THIS WEEKEND IF NOT SOONER!
