A MILD WEEK AHEAD FOR NC MOUNTAINS

Weather

Our forecast for the North Carolina is going to be pretty easy to convey today.  Except for a 20% chance of light snow or rain on Tuesday and again on Thursday, it should be sunny and milder with each passing day this week.  There’s NO CHANCES for snowmaking through the period.  Pretty much sunny and very Spring-like all weekend and at least through Sunday.

There is a “RED FLAG WARNING” from noon to 6pm today for very low humidity and high winds which make for a HIGH FIRE DANGER across the Northern Mountains of North Carolina .

Minimum relative humidity in the 10-20% range will combine with 15-25 mph winds this afternoon to create those conditions.

Other than that, look for sunny skies and a high near 45° for today…and blustery winds particularly this evening when gusts will hit close to 60 mph.

It will be a MILD week to say the least these next seven days.

Last year on this date we had a high of 48° and a low of 25°…and then we went on a string of cold days and received close to a foot of snow in areas.  Officially the NWS says we had 8” of snow over a three day period.  That won’t be happening this year as mild temps dominate the next week.

The records for this date in weather history were:

The record high was 72° back in 1996.
The record low was minus 3° back in 1963.
We had 6” of snow back in 2004.

Here’s the forecast for the next several days:

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 47. Breezy, with a west wind between 16 and 21 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 33. Breezy, with a west wind between 15 and 25 mph.

Tuesday: A slight chance of rain and snow showers before 10am, then a slight chance of rain showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high around 51. Breezy, with a west wind between 17 and 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tuesday Night: A slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low near 40. Breezy, with a west wind between 16 and 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday: Partly cloudy, with a high around 60. West wind between 15 and 20 mph.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 39.

Thursday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high around 63. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday Night: A slight chance of showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 36. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday: Partly cloudy, with a high around 52.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low near 33.

Saturday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 49.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 32.

Until Next Time!
