A Change of Plans for Wisp and Timberline Resorts – There’s ONE More Weekend of Skiing and Snowboarding left in the Southeast – See Where.

Here’s the last update for a bit as we are moving on to our Spring and Summer plans. Wisp Resort and Timberline Resort had both planned to ski for two weekends into April but Ma Nature had other plans. The rain and weather kind of washed out Wisp’s plans altogether and they are now officially closed for the season. Timberline isn’t quite finished yet. They will reopen on Saturday, April 4th and ski and ride for two more days and then call it a season on Sunday, April 5th. They recommend that anyone interested in skiing or snowboarding for one last time this season – to call ahead on Saturday morning after their ski patrol has had a chance to sweep the mountain – but they WILL be open and they are thinking that the slope total will be pretty high (as many as 19-21 trails).

With the sketchy, potential, season-extending, days that Wisp and Timberline had planned – we admit that we have not been on the site daily Tuesday through Thursday – as we kind of figured that perhaps both would not be able to "pull off staying open". We’re sad that we were right – kind of. We have Timberline’s slope report tagged as "Open one more weekend" and show no slopes open. That is because they will not make that decision until Saturday morning so check back for that info.

We had a few people email us on Wednesday asking us about "plans for the 2009-2010 season" – however in all honesty, for now, we just want to chill a few weeks. For the first time in several off-seasons we DO have some major plans for growth that we plan to implement beginning in July and August. Those plans could change as we have recently been asked to consider a proposal by an influential group of industry insiders. However, for now – it’s time to relax and sleep in just a little bit later and move on to other pursuits of outdoor enjoyment.

We invite you to keep an eye out for these new websites (as well as some old ones) and check back sometime in September for new information on SkiNorthCarolina.com and SkiSoutheast.com:

www.iGetaways.com  – Will be a new travel portal with lots of great vacation ideas

www.GolfNorthCarolina.com  – This new website debuts sometime in April.

www.GolfSC.com  – South Carolina is huge on golf, and we are too!

www.HighCountryOutdoors.com  – This site will be "going under the knife" for a bit of a makeover!

www.HighCountryWebCams.com  – We’ll be fixing some old cams, and debuting several new ones!

So stay tuned and have a great Summer! Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your day during this season. We hope you’ll come back this Fall!
