It has been a long time coming and to say that I am excited to finally be able to announce this is an understatement.
The 2014 SkiSoutheast Summit will be held at Snowshoe Mountain Feb. 28 – Mar. 2nd.
We are setup with a special rate for the Expedition Station Jr. Studios at $147.43 per night. Snowshoe is also giving us FREE TICKETS on Sunday for anyone who can stick around. PLUS, we are getting in on a special for season passes for next year. Snowshoe is going to do the discounted season passes again this year, but with a little twist. I don’t want to take their thunder so I’ll leave it at that. The promo starts in the next week or so and I’ll get into the details then. This is my first Summit at the helm and I'm looking forward to a good one. I have spoken with quite a few of you on the phone and via email and I am very much looking forward to meeting in person and, more importantly, getting some turns in!
Before I leave Summit talk and start digging into today’s ski reports, I would also like to do a mini-Summit at Beech Mountain. The weekend befor the Summit at Snowshoe (2/21-2/23) is Retro Weekend at Beech. How many of you are planning on coming up for that or would like to? TODAY
The big winner for today is Wisp Resort up in Maryland. Wisp is the proud recipient of 11” of snow in the past 24 hours and 15” in the past 48.

Next up is Canaan and Timberline who have both received 2.5” of good ole natural snow since yesterday. Bryce is our final winning contestant receiving 1” of snow since yesterday.
Down here in North Carolina we have not fared as well. All three of our resorts here in the High Country are reporting a loss of base. Appalachian and Sugar both lost 2”, but still has plenty of coverage with 42-96” at App and 50-98” at Sugar. Appalachian’s high range was last under 100” on January 28th, while Sugar last saw less than 100” on January 20th. Beech lost 4” of base.
Beech is above the clouds this morning while Appalachian and Sugar are struggling with visibility.
All is quiet with the others this morning and other than the morning temperatures, which are colder by the way, they look just like yesterday for the most part.
