We’ll provide an indepth recap of the season in a couple of days for all of you diehards that can’t get enough news and information about our region as it pertains to skiing and snowboarding. I’ve spoken with several news sources and magazine peeps in the last week who all called to get a gauge on how the season went.  Obviously it was a great one but we’ll get into a few more details in a few days.

Today IS the last day of the season for the 17 member resorts of the Southeastern Ski Areas Association. Appalachian and Cataloochee Ski areas will play for one more day – DAY 137 – and then close up ski ops for a few months before doing it all over again beginning sometime in October or November. That is six months or some 197 days away. Yes I calculated a little bit because I knows some skiers and snowboarders who, believe it not, are pretty depressed right now and have already marked their calendars for mid October and noted the numbers of days before Cataloochee or Sugar reopens for snow lovers everywhere!

Today should provide one more awesome day of weather for those of you who are playing at Cat or App today. Enjoy the day and then check back here for some closing remarks and perhaps a wish list for next season and maybe even some rants and raves for this (as of tomorrow) past season.

Ski area management teams will take a much deserved break and take a few deep breaths and enjoy the fact that the 2009-2010 season went so well.  They’ll reminisce over the many powder days that we had this past season and probably add in a few "if onlys" about a couple of poorly timed ice storms that held skier visits down earlier in the season.  Regardless we’re all happy and relieved that the 2009-2010 ski and snowboarding season was one that will go down as one of – if not THE BEST overall seasons in the region.

So check back over the next couple of days and we’ll try to give the 4100 or so of you that seem to still be hitting the website daily – something to read 😉

We’re on day 136 and there are 1 more days of opportunities to enjoy the snow for the 2009-2010 ski and snowboarding season!
