We are going to be EXACTLY normal for a high temp today across most of the mountains of North Carolina. The normal is 46° and that’s where we should top out. The low tonight will be about 5° COLDER than normal at 20°. That’s the first time we’ve heard that in a while! Snowmaking will kick in late this evening and continue as long as temps allow at all resorts.
The resorts MAY get to make snow around the clock beginning tonight and continuing all day Wednesday and Wednesday night…and only shutting down at some point on Thursday when the temps creep into the low to mid 40s.
The records for this date were:
Highest temp = 62° in 1972
Lowest temp = -17° in 1963
Most snowfall on this date was 6” back in 1956.
Here’s the forecast:
Today should be partly cloudy with highs in the mid 40s. Low tonight 20°
Wednesday is looking a little on the light snowy side. Look for substantial winds along with this one – gusts near the mid 40mph range. Don’t expect much more than a dusting to an inch at highest elevations. It should stay cold all day (maybe around the upper 20s although some models are showing a little colder and some a bit warmer. The highs shouldn’t make it above 30° or so. Wednesday night lows of around 21°
Thursday should be sunny with highs around 45° and lows in the mid 20s. More snowmaking!
Friday is looking Partly Cloudy and mild with temps near 50° and lows in the low to mid 30s.
Until Next Time!
