Quick Update:  The messageboard is back.  We looking at posts from Thanksgiving…but it’s back!  Get to posting guys and gals!

Weird weather we are having!  We are getting pretty good snow here on Hwy 105, it’s more freezing rain up top at the higher elevations.  We have about 2-3" of snow here but on the live cams you can see pavement at Beech.  We’ll be posting more updates soon.

It’s good to be back to writing about SNOW and ski related business.  What a two-plus days it’s been weathering the server crash!

The news of the day is snow, ice, sleet and hopefully not too much freezing rain.  We’ve seen reports of anywhere from 1-4" of white stuff and the forecast is fort a mix of precip today.  Actually areas like Boone and Blowing Rock could see more snow that Sugar and Beech on this one.  So far we’re seeing about two inches here at our offices on Highway 105 between Boone and Banner Elk and it’s actually colder here than at Sugar or Beech.

While we were busy doing server repairs, the base depths sure did zoom up around the area. Great conditions will be witnessed no matter where you choose to ski.  One observer noted that this could be the best December conditions we’ve seen in two decades. While our North Carolina resorts aren’t QUITE off to the start that resorts northward are seeing, we HAVE seen a fair amount of good snow and plenty of cold to make snow and conditions are quite nice all over!  This bodes well for the fast-approaching holiday period!

We’ll no-doubt see more terrain opening up for this weekend.  Right now the resorts are still in the massive snowmaking mode.

Bear with us a bit today as we’re still coming up to full speed (from the server crash) on some of the database-driven features of the website.  We’re having to fix what it took us years to get to…in a matter of days. Everything should be back to normal sometime today…such as messageboard, etc.

Since we’re still in that mode, there’s only a couple of quick notes for today.

Hawksnest is closed and will be reopening on Friday.

Ski Beech is offering Men the opportunity to SKI FREE today and tonight with their "Men’s Day" free skiing program on Thursdays.

Sugar Mountain is hosting and celebrating Sugar Fest this weekend. Sugarfest is this weekend!  Don’t miss the Live Music, Consumer Demos, Fireworks Saturday at 5:45pm, Rail Jam and Ice Sculpting!  Sugar also plans to open the snowboard park and the red slope this weekend. Tubing shouldn’t be far behind!

Check back and we’ll update you as the weather warrants.

Until Next time…
