I’m playing catch up from all of the photos and reports that we received over the weekend so I am compiling both SkiNC and SkiSoutheast reports this morning.

This next couple of weeks promises to be the best skiing and snowboarding of the season across the entire Southeast and Mid-Atlantic. Most areas of the Southeast got a little natural snow over the weekend.

Look for around the clock snowmaking at many ski areas, and some will begin making snow only at night as conditions will be remarkably great across the region.  If you haven’t skied this season – NOW IS THE TIME!

Notes from around the region:

Appalachian Ski Mountain has only 7 trails operating today as they are focusing on some massive snowmaking on Hard Core and Thin Slice.  We have Kent Jackson over there today taking some pics with the Special Olympics ongoing as well.  Appalachian received about 2” of snow Saturday and Sunday and they are making snow as we speak.  Expect great conditions.

Hawksnest Resort has everything open expect Old Blue, Narrow Gauge and Top Gun.  They are reporting about 4” of snow from this weekend’s storm and like all of the resorts, they made snow like crazy.  Expect GREAT conditions at Hawksnest today on 9 trails plus the tubing hill.

Ski Beech is reporting 5” of snow from this weekend.  The temp there at 6:45am was 15 degrees and tons of snowmaking was happening.  Snowmaking will continue and they are skiing on GREAT, Packed Powder conditions with 14 trails going.  Today is Ladies Day.  Ladies ski FREE!

Everyone in Virginia made snow as well and conditions have improved dramatically with great snowmaking ops over the weekend.  Cold temps continue all week and conditions will be phenomenal all week long.

Frankee Love of Wintergreen wrote, “Cold Weather is back! Snowmaking began overnight Saturday and we have been making snow around the clock since. Look for a quick return to the great ski conditions that our automated snowmaking system is able to produce. With this Cold weather settling in and forecasted be with us for a while we are looking to get more terrain open quickly. Come up and see the difference 48 hours of cold can make. Today, we will be skiing and riding on 15 trails and 4 lifts will be running. The Plunge will have limited lanes.

As we report into West Virginia you can see that more snow fell up that way!

Canaan Valley reported 9” of snow from this weekend’s storm and they are getting a bit more today. 24 trails are open and Powder conditions!

Snowshoe Mountain is hosting their annual Cupp Run Challenge today and they couldn’t ask for better weather!  Snowshoe got a 7” of snow from this weekend’s storm and they’ll have a bit more today. So POWDER conditions will prevail today!  Snowshoe has seen 106” of snow in the season now.  A few more snow showers are expected this morning before the skies clear up. The snow, combined with the overnight snowmaking, will make for incredible skiing and riding conditions all week long. Be advised, that Cupp Run will be closed today for the Cupp Run Challenge.

Timberline received 6” of new snow and they too have great conditions today on 27 trails.  They are reporting 95” of snow on the season and we have them closer to 80” that their neighbor Canaan Valley is showing.  Expect GREAT conditions at Timberline.

Winterplace Resort is reporting 3” of snow and they have 22 trails open and GREAT conditions.

Wisp Resort picked up another 5” of snow and that takes them to 84” on the season and today they are skiing on great conditions and 33 trails.

Ober Gatlinburg looks great today on 5 trails and they received a little snow over the weekend and did lots of snowmaking.

Cloudmont, way down in Alabama is reporting that they picked up 6” of wet snow and they are back open after a couple of weeks of down time.  One slope is running.

Until Next Time!
