Good morning and hello to all the snow lovers out there! This is my first morning report and I am looking forward to providing you guys with articles and other tidbits of information that will hopefully keep you entertained on a daily basis. I’m pretty stoked to be doing this, as I have been a frequent visitor and fan of the site for about four years now. I read the front page article every morning and to be the one writing it now is just awesome! My messageboard name is theKENDOG for those who don’t know. If you see me on the slopes sometime feel free to say hey. You can’t miss me, I’m usually the guy with a camera on his head.

On to business now. This weekend is looking like a perfect time to get some turns in if you haven’t already this season. After a week of natural snowfall coupled with around the clock snowmaking, blue skies and warmer temps are what we can look forward to. It looks like this may be a continuing theme for the next few weeks as the weather pattern is undergoing a significant change. Throughout the fall we heard of winter forecasts calling for mild, dry weather due to La Nina. It looks like that is about to finally happen as the Southeast is going to be under the control of high pressure for a while.  No worries though, the ski areas have seen an abundance of natural snowfall in December and January. Combine that with the impressive snowmaking operations at each of the resorts and there is PLENTY of snow to go around. Just take one look at the base depths across the region if you don’t believe me. I’ll be on the slopes myself this weekend and I’m looking forward to my first hoody day of the season. Check out Brad Panovich’s weekend forecast here for more information.

<<Beech Mountain this morning.  Expect conditions like this all weekend.

Here’s a look at the resorts…

Wisp Resort - 15°- Open on 100% of the mountain and snowmaking did take place last night so snow conditions should be excellent. They do have Valentine’s Day specials going on right now so make sure to check that out.

Snowshoe Mountain - 10°- Open today on 58 of 60 trails. Slaymaker and Spur will be closed for race preparations and course use. Here's what LP has to say - "It's finally Friday and we couldn't be more excited for the weekend ahead. Today we'll enjoy great packed powder conditions and plenty of sunshine. Temperatures will rise to near 30 degrees, which will be a welcome relief after some very cold temps the last few days. If you're lucky enough to be enjoying our great on-snow conditions today, don't forget to lather up with sunscreen. Just like water, snow reflects the sun's rays, which are already intensified up here at 4848'. So be sure to protect yourself with sunblock and either tinted goggles or sunglasses. If you've forgotten any of these essentials, our great retail locations have everything you need to be comfortable and stylish on and off the slopes!

Overnight we'll see some clouds and possibly a snow shower move in and that snow may continue throughout the day tomorrow with about 1/2 an inch of accumulation expected. On Sunday we'll once again see lots of sunshine and temperatures will flirt with 40 degrees! While that's warm for February on the mountain, it's not unheard of, and cold overnight temperatures will mean conditions are in great shape! We’ve had over 10 feet of natural snow this season and Snowshoe’s powerful snowmaking system has helped lay down a terrific sustainable base across our slope system. In other words, the snow isn’t going anywhere anytime soon! It looks like we start off next week with more chances for snow showers and then the sun returns for some great mid-week conditions. Don't forget that we're also offering killer mid-week lodging deals, starting at just $122 per person for two days of skiing, two nights lodging and breakfast daily!

This weather will also set us up nicely for the upcoming Presidents' Day Holiday weekend. Take advantage of an extra day or tow on the mountain and join us for the long weekend; but you better act soon, as lodging is filling up fast! Great package rates are available. And if you have little ones looking to hit the slopes, our Kids Ski Free packages for children 12 and under return Feb 21st and are good thru the end of the season. Call 877-441-4386 to take advantage of any of these great deals!

All 5 terrain parks are open and looking sweet this morning. Don't forget we'll be offering our "Ride Thru with the Park Crew" program at 11am today at both the Snowshoe and Silver Creek areas. This free introduction to terrain parks will teach you about the Smart Style approach to freestyle terrain, proper park etiquette and the types of features you can expect to encounter in Snowshoe's 5 park areas. This is not a freestyle lesson, but rather a way to introduce proper park practices and techniques in a fun and friendly atmosphere from the guys who know our parks best! "Ride Thrus" meet up at 11am at the Snowshoe area at the MAC store at the top of the Ballhooter lift and at 11am at the large trail map between Timberjack and Robertson's Run at Silver Creek; look for the guys in the lime green coats!

Canaan Resort - 18°- Open today on 38 of 39 slopes. Lower Spruce Run is the only slope closed today! They have 163.3 inches of natural snowfall this season!

Timberline - 18°- Timberline is open on 37 of 39 slopes with Twister and Parkway being the only closures. Twister is closed for concentrated snowmaking efforts. They are reporting the backcountry as being open!

Winterplace - 14°- Open today on 100% of the mountain. Over Easy and Wood’s Run are back open again after snowmaking yesterday. Conditions at Winterplace will be top notch all weekend long.

Bryce Resort - 25°- Open today on 100% of the mountain! Snowmaking has been fired up for the last couple of days so the trails will have awesome groomed conditions!

Massanutten - 25°- Open today on 100% of the mountain with loose granular conditions. Both terrain parks are open with a number of features set up. Tubing is also open today with 8 lanes of fun!

Wintergreen - 23° - Open today on 100% of the mountain. Big Acorn and Logger's Alley are now open again today after some intense snowmaking the past few days. Also, don’t forget about Adventure Weekend this weekend at Wintergreen! Click here for more information.

Appalachian Ski Mountain - 27°- Open today on all 12 slopes. After a few days of snowmaking on AppalJack, that terrain park has been rebuilt and is now open again. Fresh Friday #3 is going down tonight there and here is what they have to say about it.

Fresh Fridays, as… always, will sport a low-key, relaxed jam session format, where riders can hit the new setup as many times as they want, in any order they want, just like a normal day of riding with friends. Registration will be from 5:00-6:30 at the registration desk on the Upper Level of the Lodge. The shred sesh will last from 7:00 – 8:00, with the awards taking place nearby the setup immediately after the jam ends. Finally, as Sarah mentioned yesterday, WE NEED MORE PICTURES! I myself just got back from a trip in Utah and I love seeing all these pictures from out west, but I know there are plenty of you out there at the local resorts. To get some more trip reports out of you guys, we’re having a mini contest this weekend. The person the we judge to have the best trip report on the messageboard from one of the local resorts will win 4 passes to either Cataloochee, Wolf Ridge, or Massanutten. So take a camera with you! It’s been pretty hard in the morning lately to post a photo of the day when there aren’t any new ones coming in! With the beautiful weather expected this weekend, I’m hoping there will be plenty to choose from come Monday morning.

That’s about it for today. Send me stuff at and enjoy your Friday!
