Wintergreen, VA (Jan. 6, 2015) – The popular four-season family destination in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains is hosting several annual events to keep it connected to friends and supporters with disabilities in the community.

Wintergreen Adaptive Sports Wounded Warrior Weekend, February 6-8, exemplifies the giving spirit. The annual family weekend, on which Wintergreen Adaptive Sports hosts over thirty wounded warriors and their families, is also one on which Wintergreen Resort salutes all military personnel by offering discounted lift tickets and lodging to active members of the military, veterans, and their families. Discounts apply to active duty, Wounded Warriors, retired active duty as well as National Guard, spouses and dependent children.  Military members must present military identification and will receive one discount per identification.  Savings opportunities are available on lift passes, equipment rentals, snowsports lessons, lodging and children’s programs (http://www.wintergreenresort.com/Passes-and-Deals/#military). For details on WAS’s programs, visit: www.wintergreenadaptivesports.org/wounded-warriors-weekend.

Wintergreen Adaptive Sports (WAS) Mardi Gras, March 7, is a Saturday of rollicking good fun on the slopes.  This annual celebration recognizes WAS students and volunteers beginning with a colorful line parade on skis and snowboards down Wintergreen’s Potato Patch Trail. A traditional Mardi Gras gumbo lunch will be served following the parade and numerous adaptive ski and snowboard lessons, featuring authentic New Orleans-style cuisine and plenty of Cajun and Zydeco music.  The popular synchronized ski contest takes place at 3 p.m.  With the WAS joie de vivre on full display, expect polished acting, ironic humor, and graceful athleticism all rolled into one. WAS staff and volunteers will gather at day’s end for a buffet supper and the presentation of volunteer awards.

A $100 minimum donation provides a lift ticket, lunch, and the opportunity to participate in all the day’s fun events. Student lesson fee is $100, which includes a lift ticket, equipment, a lesson and lunch.  For more information, call WAS at (434) 327-2007 or e-mail [email protected] to register. All events and meals are free to volunteers and staff.

Accommodations at Wintergreen Resort include 230 villa-style condominiums and rental homes, from studio suites to seven-bedroom homes, each offering a fully equipped kitchen and a comfortable living area, most with fireplaces and a balcony or deck.
