I’ve really enjoyed Kenny Griffin’s post titles the last two days. Yesterday’s, “The Best February 29th Conditions in at Least Four Years” was clever, but in reality it was THE BEST – period. It was also possible the best I’ve timed things to enjoy a day of skiing in all my days here in the East.

Brad Panovich nailed the forecast a few days ago when he said that the West Virginia ski area could see a foot or more of snowfall over the Thursday-Sunday window. As of Saturday morning, the official snowfall total from the NWS station atop Snowshoe claimed 11″ of natural snow. …and then it bombed snow all day long, bringing the 72 hour total to 17″! The imagery all over this mountain resembles western resorts!

Snowshoe Mountain’s top brass at Snowshoe are honoring SkiSoutheast peeps with First Tracks for a full hour this morning beginning at 8am so, this post will be short! We will be posting more later, so check back.

Conditions across the entire region will be pristine.

Check the snow report for all the deets…

Here are some notables I saw this morning. I’m headed out so check back later for more and also watch our Instagram and Facebook feeds for additional posts.

Canaan Valley Resort has seen over 17″ of snow in the last 72 hours! They have 33 trails open today and 30KM of Available Trails of XC Skiing & Snowshoeing terrain open.

From CoCoRaHs reports it looks like Cataloochee Ski Area picked up around 8-9″ of natural snow from this great, three day event.

More soon…
