Wet Today – Snowmaking Returns each night this Week!

Weather

Stay up to date by getting notified of new posts!

First things first, yes we’re in for some more rain today and this evening, but then COLD AIR comes to the rescue JUST IN TIME for the ski resorts of North Carolina as overnight temps Tuesday Night through Friday Night will allow for SNOWMAKING!  That should get the slopes back into nice shape by the weekend!

The normal high for this date is 43° and we will be a bit warmer than that until Wednesday.  The normal low is 22° and we will be right on those temps Tuesday night and through each night the rest of this week.  That should be GREAT news for skiers and those who have trips planned for this weekend.  The slopes should be in great shape by Thursday or Friday.

The record high temp for this date is 64° back in 1967 and the record low for January 23rd is 2° back in 2005.  The record single day snowfall for this date is 6.5” back in 1987.

We’ve also had some emailers asking about LAST year’s weather at this time.  It seems that people remember that after our slow start last season that we had a burst of cold and snow and they are correct.  This week LAST season we had highs in the 30s all week and lows of 2° every night for a week.  We also had snow every day for a week.  During that one week we received 24” of snow on Beech Mountain!

Okay, we won’t see anything like that this week, but COLD air returns and the snowmaking crews across the state will go back to work making snow!

Here’s the details:

Monday…Rain this morning…Then a chance of rain showers this afternoon. Highs in the lower 50s. West winds 5 to 10 mph. Overnight low near 30°

Tuesday…Mostly sunny and breezy. Highs in the upper 40s. Northwest winds 10 to 20 mph and gustier winds maybe into the 40mph range. Overnight low of around 23°

Wednesday…Sunny and windy. Cooler with highs in the mid 30s. Northwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Overnight low near 21°

Thursday…Clear and breezy. Lows in the lower 20s. Highs in the mid 40s.

Friday…Mostly clear. Lows in the mid to upper 20s. Highs in the upper 40s.

Until Next Time!
