The combination of natural and manmade snow over the past few days has given the resorts the luxury to turn their snowguns from their primary trails and open up more terrain and extend their hours. Sugar, Appalachian, Beech, Wintergreen, and Massanutten have all opened for night skiing. Tubing returned to the area in a big way this weekend with the opening of the Frozen Fall Tube Park at Sapphire Valley and the Plunge at Wintergreen. Snowshoe and Canaan expanded their options by opening their tube parks as well, which just leaves Winterplace as the final WV resort to open their tube runs.
On the opening more terrain front, Timberline has opened up their 2 mile run, Salamander and is running on 10 of their 40 trails with 2” of new natural on the ground. Snowshoe opened up Silver Creek and is now skiing from 9am – 9pm. Massanutten has opened ParaDice and is operating with two of their three black diamonds today – Diamond Jim is the other. Massanutten has been busy and is opening the CMB Terrain Park today as well.

Thanks for all the hard work and long hours everyone – we certainly do appreciate it.
Things are looking really good for the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic resorts right now. We’re in the middle of December and just about all of our resorts are open with good skiing and riding all around. A number of our resorts have seen natural snow in the past few days and more is in the forecast today for many.
I want to take a quick second and thank everyone who contacted me yesterday. A lot of you liked the tour of Appalachian, Sugar, and Beech I did on Friday the 13th. You can check out the trip report here if you missed it. I had a blast doing it and would love to do more – although I’m still having a difficult time getting around due to my early season legs. It would be really cool to put together a Ski West Virginia and a Ski Virginia tour – how long would it take to ski all the resorts in WV or VA? There would be a little more traveling required between resorts, so I imagine it would take a couple of days. I'll have to schedule those a little better so hopefully we'll be able to make a few turn while I'm visiting.
It’s the last day of the weekend – why not get outside.
