Another resort is added to the mix on this Thanksgiving Eve.

App Ski Mountain announced late yesterday that today would be their first day of the 2021-22 season.

App joins Cataloochee and Sugar Mountain among the ranks of the open.

If you are a season passholder or employee at Snowshoe, you can take advantage of an appreciation day today before the rope drops on the season tomorrow.

App Ski Mountain will open the season with a 24-36″ base with groomed conditions. They are playing on eight slopes – including Upper Big Appal along with terrain parks Appaljack and Appal Jam – with five lifts in operation.

Online reservations are required and you can do that at appskimountain.com.

Cataloochee is playing on seven trails with four lifts spinning. The Maggie Valley resort is reporting a 24-32″ base with groomed conditions, and they are open to the top and will be skiing and riding until 10p tonight.

Sugar Mountain is skiing and riding with a 15-48″ base with manmade and frozen granular conditions. Sugar has added Easy Street and the Easy Street lift to the mix as they now have three lifts turning and seven slopes open for play.

If you are heading out to Snowshoe’s Passholder Preview Day, they will be playing off the Ballhooter lift today.

Snowshoe did announce the opening day menu for Thanksgiving, and they will be playing on 30 acres of skiable terrain on Thursday.

I would be stunned if that number doesn’t go up quickly.

As a note, we are also expecting Beech Mountain to kick off their season on Friday and I wouldn’t be surprised to see another opening day announcement over the coming days.

With the big uptick, today (and every day) is definitely a big #ThankASnowmaker day!

The next few days will see ample snowmaking opportunities and even a chance of some light natural snow to help set the winter ambiance.

Brad shared his latest Skier’s Forecast last night and you should check it out.

The cold never bothered us anyway so we will take as much as we can. Hopefully, we will see some bigger snow starting to mix in that forecast as well.

That does it for today, but until next time, #ThinkSnow!
