Here’s your three open ski areas for this Sunday, December 6th, 2015.

Beech Mountain Resort – 6-18″ base and open for day sessions with 5 slopes, serviced by 2 lifts.

Cataloochee Ski Area – 19-34″ base and open for day skiing and snowboarding with 6 trails and 3 lifts. Tubing is open as well.

Sugar Mountain Resort – 7-21″ base and open for day and night sessions with 4 slopes and 1 lift. Ice skating open as well.

Snowshoe Mountain – They’ve really put down a ton of snow on the Silvercreek side as well as their main terrain on the Snowshoe side. Over the last 24 hours and change there’s been no snowmaking at the top of the mountain as temps have not allowed it over there. It’s crazy but temps atop Snowshoe are hovering around 40° early Sunday morning but it’s cold enough to make snow at Silver Creek and not at the base of Ball Hooter.

That’s it sports fans. The temps are hovering in the mid to upper 30s and even some 40s this morning so there’s no snowmaking happening anywhere this Sunday morning with the lone exception of over on the Silvercreek side of Snowshoe Mountain.

We received some emails on Saturday from people wondering why Appalachian Ski Mountain didn’t open on Saturday or today as the mountain passes the “webcam visual test” but according to staffers – it just isn’t good enough to be open.

I’m headed out this morning to meet up with a friend and ski at Sugar for a couple of hours this morning. I’ll submit a trip report of my own later.

I DO have some weather updates and some interesting weather dynamics to share with you guys that might be of interest to you so check back.

I know some people were forecasting snow for Monday and there’s still a chance of some wet snow across the region but nothing to get excited about.

Hope to hear from Meteorologist Brad Panovich with some good news.

Here are some temperature readings from across our coverage areas as of 8am this morning:

Appalachian – 36°
Beech – 36°
Cataloochee – 38°
Sugar – 32°
Timberline / Canaan Valley – 31°
Snowshoe Mountain – 24°
Wolf Ridge – 35°
Wintergreen – 45°
Wisp – 41°

Until next time…
