The Weather Outside is Frightful…

…but the fire’s so delightful! The weather is AGAIN on everyone’s mind this morning. Before I get into that, I need to say that I am working remotely again this morning and I am now able to see that a LOT of you have sent photos. The connection that I am on allows me to update these updates and the Slope Conditions…and I can see a ton of email popping in, but the connection is so slow that it prohibits me from being able to do the photo work necessary to add photos of the day today. Nevertheless please keep them coming! I’ll be on my way back home to the mountains this evening and I plan to add ALL of the images and On-Snow Reports that you guys sent.

Now to the Weather The COLDEST air of the season is forecasted to hit the region and already this morning we have received a few reports of scattered snow across the region. Rob at the Sugar Mountain Police Department told me that they had already received 1-2" of snow this morning and that there was snow on the roads. 5" to 8" of snow is forecast for the higher elevations today and we’re hoping for more!

No reports from Timberline T-i-m-b-e-r! Since we questioned the accuracy of the 38" reported at Timberline the other day…they have quit talking…at least via their website, etc. They have not updated a report since December 16th…so we really don’t know what to tell you.

Since information isn’t coming out of the resort…we called and I don’t have a mean bone in my body…promise…but the young lady that answered the phone was c-l-u-e-l-e-s-s. I asked her about the conditions and I swear that she hesitated numerous times while calling out which of their trails was open…one coming every 5 or 10 seconds. Then after taking a minute to tell me that they had 5 trails open (which I already knew) I asked her how much NATURAL SNOW they had, to which she answered 10-60" and I said, "No not base depths…but natural snow."

She answered, "Huh?" I clarified my question and she answered, "Oh, uh, uh, I don’t know."

Sensing that I wasn’t going to get anywhere, I inquired about speaking to someone with mountain ops and she said, "What?" — I gave up on that angle and tried one last attempt. I asked, "I was trying to get an updated ski report and we have not received any updates and I also noticed that your own website has not been updated since December 16th…and wanted to get an update." She could only reply with, "We have 5 slopes…" I gave up – for good.

I understand everyone has a place in this wonderful world that we live in…and I am certain that whoever this young lady was is probably a wonderful young soul, but THIS particularly sweet soul shouldn’t be answering the phone, representing the resort. We’ll try again another time. I have to hit the road…headed home.

THINK SNOW!
