The Waiting Game

The waiting game is on.

It is hard to believe we are less than one month away from the start of the 2020-21 season (weather permitting of course). It is even harder to believe that the time to start watching for snowmaking has arrived.

Before we can get to the cold weather, we have to get through some wet and windy weather as the remnants of Hurricane Zeta move through the Appalachians as a segway of sorts for the colder temps on Thursday.

A cold front moves in Thursday night into Friday and will send temperatures nose diving.

Last season, we saw some light snow and heavy snowmaking at three resorts on Halloween night, and that trend may continue – albeit a day earlier.

This year, it looks like some flakes may fly at our northern resorts on Friday with cooler temperatures lasting into the weekend, including a forecasted low of around 19 at Snowshoe on Sunday night.

Talk about a wild weather swing – tropical storm conditions on Thursday and temperatures in the teens a couple of days later.

Could we see snowmaking this weekend?

Quite possibly and we will be keeping an eye out over at Resortcams to see if things get cranked up even just for a little while.

Be sure to check back as we put our ear to the ground to see who plans to make snow over the weekend.

The long-term forecast doesn’t look ideal for snowmaking towards the end of next week, but forecasts certainly change.

However, we will keep #ThinkingSnow and #ThinkingCold.
Until next time!
