The good keeps going on.

It is almost as if we hit a light switch on Jan. 2, and we are loving the results so far.

The pattern has seemingly flipped to the cold side and the resorts are making the best of it. It doesn’t hurt there is more snow in the forecast.

Wednesday is going to be a bit of a calm before the storm as our attention turns to Thursday evening and night with snow returning to the area.

Our own Brad Panovich (who gets full credit for the opening line) posted his latest skier’s forecast, and it is pretty exciting stuff if you ask me.

That looks very, very promising.

Winter Storm Watches went into effect this morning for nearly the entire Ski Southeast coverage area, and we are getting pumped as Friday and Saturday look to be incredible days on the slopes.

The snow is awesome news, but the cold temperatures and snowmaking windows are just as great. This is a great time to #ThankASnowmaker.

For today, we have 11 resorts with lifts spinning this morning. Here is a quick look at the breakdown as we stand this morning.

North Carolina
App Ski Mountain – App Ski is playing on a 12-16″ base with a groomed surface. They are playing on seven slopes with five lifts in operation.

Beech Mountain – Beech has upped their open slopes to 10 for today with four lifts in operation. They are reporting a 15-23″ base with groomed conditions.

Cataloochee – Cataloochee is riding on a groomed surface atop a 12-24″ base. They have four lifts servicing nine open trails today.

Sugar Mountain – Sugar upped their open trail count to 11 this morning with four lifts spinning. They are reporting a 21-49″ base with manmade and frozen granular surface conditions.

Wolf Ridge – The surprise of the morning was that Wolf Ridge was able to reopen this morning. The resort has a 12-24″ base with groomed conditions and will be playing on three trails and two lifts.

West Virginia
Snowshoe Mountain – The ‘Shoe is rolling with 93 acres of open terrain today as Silver Creek opens at noon. Snowshoe is reporting a 28″ base with 28 trails open (including Widowmaker) and six lifts spinning.

Timberline Mountain – Timberline is reporting an 18-24″ base with a groomed surface. The Davis resort currently has six slopes open, but I expect that number to jump within the next couple of days.

Virginia
Bryce Resort – Bryce is playing on five slopes with four lifts open today. They are reporting a groomed and frozen granular surface.

Massanutten Resort – Massanutten is also resuming operations today with five open trails serviced by four lifts. They are riding on a groomed surface.

Wintergreen Resort – Wintergreen is back this morning with seven open slopes and two lifts in operation. They are reporting a 10″ base and groomed conditions.

Maryland
Wisp Resort – Wisp is reporting a 10″ base with groomed snow conditions for today. They are playing on three trails and two lifts spinning.

That does it for today, but until next time, #ThinkSnow!
