Appalachian Ski Mountain and Cataloochee Ski Area remain open today. App for day and night sessions and Cat for day sessions only today. Check the SNOW REPORT as we do have three resorts operating today. For slopes, base and more, check the full snow report.

As I was perusing all the LIVE CAMS this morning it was quickly apparent that humidity and/or wet bulb temperatures are an issue this morning – even where the temperatures seem to be cold enough to make snow. Another oddity about the temps this morning is the fact that we’re seeing 31° this morning at Sugar Mountain (no snowmaking), 30° at Snowshoe and no snowmaking, and depending on where you look around the five-state mountain resort area from Maryland to North Carolina you will see temps as high as 43°.

However, I also saw snow falling via the Ballhooter Camera at the bottom of the mountain at Snowshoe this morning. That obviously bodes well for their rope drop on the 2018-2019 season which begins tomorrow morning! (That is the subject of our Photo of the Day up top.)

If you want to watch it LIVE view the Snowshoe Boathouse Cam.

Speaking of Webcams…

I KNOW that what I am about to share/announce will create a hearty round of celebration out there in SkiSoutheast-land, but I am very happy to announce that Cataloochee Ski Area is replacing both of their old, static cams with HD, 1080p, Pan, Tilt and Zoom cameras! Those will arrive at Cataloochee on Wednesday and go LIVE shortly. I’m sure that I speak for a ton of Cataloochee fans when I say that I can’t wait to see those new video streams.

By the way, we’re still waiting on the two new cameras to go LIVE up in Garrett County…that are aimed at Deep Creek Lake and Wisp Resort. Their IT guys have been slow to move…but perhaps they are not in a hurry until the cold hits this week.

The Latest Weather Forecasts

The forecast graphics below are for Canaan Valley. It looks like later today there should be plenty of cold air for snowmaking ops and some natural snow to boot.

Beech Mountain forecast…looks like a wintry mix will be coming in with some good snowmaking temperatures.

Since Snowshoe Mountain is opening Wednesday morning, so let’s have a look. Things look plenty nice for Opening day with temps in the 20s to around 30. Lots of snowmaking ops as well.

We have a lot of exciting things to share over the coming days. Let’s just say, “we’re thankful” as we head into Thanksgiving Day.
