Happy First Day of Summer!

I feel a little like Olaf from Frozen this morning – a winter being pumped to see the calendar turn to summer. While ski season is our favorite time of year here at SkiSoutheast, summer is also a special time in our mountain communities and at our member resorts as all have some unique activities and events.

There are a ton of things going on this weekend so we decided to take a look at some that stood out to us.

Don’t see your favorite resort listed? Be sure to check out their website to see what summer happenings are going on.

Rhododendron Festival

One of the coolest events this weekend happens within a short drive of the North Carolina resorts with the Rhododendron Festival in Roan Mountain State Park.
The festival celebrates the world’s largest natural rhododendron gardens atop Roan Mountain (a great place for cross country skiing in the winter) on Saturday and Sunday. While the festival is held at the foot of the mountain in the state park, it is a short drive to the top of the Roan to the gardens.
At the festival, there will be local arts and crafts along with food vendors as well as musical entertainment.

Bryce Resort’s Dinner on the Mountain

Bryce is set to offer a unique dinning experience on Saturday. After a scenic chair lift ride to the top of the mountain, you will enjoy a beautiful view and a three-course meal.

Saturday’s Dinner on the Mountain is the first of four events with an additional one being held on Lake Laura in August.

The dinners are limited to 50 people per dinner so be sure to reserve your spot.

Canaan Valley West Virginia Days

For the history buffs, the Canaan Valley resort State Park will host the annual West Virginia Celebration this weekend. The events include civil war reenactments, authentic encampment and battlefield demonstrations.

Canaan Valley will also host one of their popular summer strolls and a WV Irish Road Bowling event this weekend.

Snowshoe to host Grand National Cross Country Series

There is always something going on at 4,848 and this weekend is no different as the resort is set to host the Amsoil Snowshoe Grand National Cross Country Series.

The event is two full days of ATV and bike races on challenging courses – including deep mud bogs, massive tree roots and going up and down hills – all over the mountain.

In addition to the racing action, there will be demonstration rides, eBike demos and live entertainment.
