It is shaping up to be a pretty sweet day for skiing and snowboarding. We’re seeing some clouds this morning but things are forecasted to clear up shortly and the afternoon should provide some pretty fun conditions. Temperatures generally are in the upper 20’s and lower 30’s, so the snow should be pretty good this morning, softening up a bit by the afternoon as it’s going to be fairly mild. The cams this morning look good and I really wish I could ride.
<<< Conditions look really great up at Beech this morning. Temperature inversions are creating some cool looking clouds in the valleys.
It’s pretty gorgeous up at Wintergreen Resort in Virginia as well!
Yesterday turned out to be pretty decent as well. A lot of the underdeveloped snow that I was talking about yesterday morning never made its way into the southern part of the region. The weather system broke down significantly and the resorts here in North Carolina and Virginia didn’t see much in the way of rain. Our Sugar Mountain station is showing a whopping .01 inches of precip yesterday. Things cleared up pretty nicely in the afternoon. Check out this awesome photo from yesterday at Beech that Talia Freeman just sent to me.
<<< Now that is a pretty beautiful sight!
Up into West Virginia, those resorts actually saw a little bit of snow. Canaan and Timberline are reporting 2” this morning. Snowshoe is saying they received 1” and Winterplace saw a trace. Conditions across the entire region are pretty good right now, but it really is noticeably better at these four resorts. Out of 166 trails in the state, 142 of those are open for skiing and riding right now. That is pretty dang good.
Hopefully this better weather will stick around as this season is passing us by pretty quickly. I can’t believe it’s the middle of February already. In a month, I’ll probably be playing tennis at Seven Devils with Mike again. I hope that’s not the case though.
As for that weather, today looks good. Sunshine and mild temps by the afternoon. Tomorrow is looking wet unfortunately. There’s no way of sugar coating it. Friday and Saturday look to see a return to sunshine once again. Things get interesting beginning Saturday night. Wintry weather is definitely in our forecast for Sunday, but right now it could be underdeveloped snow, it could be snow, or it could be somewhere in between those two. I’ll definitely keep you updated over the next few days.
