The Northwest Flow Storm is moving right along, as predicted. Yesterday/Overnight, the 5000 foot peaks in NC received around an inch, which put Beech and Cat in that category.

Beech looks mighty wintry this morning

Perhaps the bigger news was the (unexpected) accumulation at Wintergreen overnight (snow total still pending). On the national news this morning, I saw some deep shots of the Blue Ridge Parkway up there.

Wintergreen: By the looks of it . . . a couple of inches

The storm has moved into (and will sit) over parts of WV and MD as both places should start to see the snowfall ramp up today into tonight. Snowshoe may see 3-7″ and Wisp may see 2-4″. Both places will have some light snow on Saturday morning as well.

The weather is going to be really nice and ‘springy’ this weekend with fresh tracks to be had.

Another round of snow fall looks to be brewing for early next week. I’m already getting excited for Spring Snow – Round 2!

Wisp sees the bulk of their snow come today/tonight . . . announces closing date of March 31st

  • Wisp:
    • “Wisp Resort is holding a steady base, with the front side open from 9am-5pm Monday thru Sunday.  With minimal lift lines and moderate temperatures, this is the perfect time to strap your gear on your car and head on over.  Wisp Resort is aiming to close the mountain on March 31st so make sure to get your last few days of winter in and purchase your Lift Tickets in advance for discounts.”
    • “It has been an epic winter for snowmaking with over 54 days of pumping water, making this the most snow our Mountain Ops team has produced in the last 11 years.  We spent 1,053 hours with our snow machines on since November and so long as mother nature allows, we will have a 108 day season this year, closing on March 31st which makes this one of our longest seasons in nearly a decade.”
    • Snow in the forecast:
      • Today: New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
      • Tonight:  New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Parts of VA got clobbered by some unexpected snow . . . spring conditions on tap for this weekend

  • Wintergreen: Open on 14 runs and 4 lifts from 9am-5pm
    • “Who said it was Spring? It’s certainly not spring-like on the mountain. We woke up to big snowflakes and lots and lots of accumulating snow! The road crews are out keeping the roads clear for tomorrow when we re-open the slopes for the weekend. Talk about a last hurrah – it’s our final flurry of fun.”
Snowy yesterday, cobalt blue skies today
  • Massanutten: Open on 12 runs and 6 lifts from 9am-9pm
    • Offers the only night skiing/tubing in Virginia for tonight/tomorrow night . . . “Come enjoy Spring skiing and riding at Massanutten! Partly sunny with highs in the mid 40s. The Ski Slopes are open from 9 am – 9 pm today with Snow Tubing available from 2 pm – 9 pm.”
  • Massanutten: Looks like a special day/weekend on tap
  • Bryce:
    • Haven’t heard much from Bryce lately. They are open from 10am-3pm on 7 runs and 3 lifts with a 12-18″+ base.

WV saw only a bit of snow last night . . . the bulk of their snow comes today/tonight

  • Snowshoe:
    • Officially reporting .5″ at 7am . . . A inch or so of fresh snow is a great way to end the week!
    • “More snow is in the forecast . . . ”
      • Today: New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
      • Tonight: New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
  • Winterplace: reported Trace overnight
    • Today: New snow accumulation of less than half an inch possible.

NC saw their snow hit last night . . . half to an inch was reported.

  • Appalachian Ski Mountain:
    • Plenty of base with 54-109 being reported. No new snow was reported, but it looks like they received a dusting on the cams.
    • 100% open with the Meltdown Games on tap this weekend with gorgeous weather. Might be the pick place to be if you are in the High Country this weekend.
  • Beech Mountain: 7am temp: 24F. Received 1″ overnight
    •  Closing date of (tomorrow) Saturday, March 23rd. (Sunday for season passholders, gold cards holders, and BMR staff).
  • Looks like the heart of winter on Beech Mountain this morning!

    Cataloochee: 7am temp: 24F

    • “Well, it may be Friday but you’ll want to start your weekend early because  we have 1″ of new snow!”
    • “Temp is 24 degrees on the top of the mountain and today we will be skiing and riding on a base of 31-71″ on 13 slopes and offer one session:  day skiing from 9am-4:30pm with a morning or afternoon half day rate available.”
    • Cat: Even Snow on Over Easy this morning

      That’s all for today.
