Sugar Mountain is making snow at 27.8° as of 8:47am. The high temp for today was actually EARLIER this morning when Boone and Beech Mountain both reported 40°. Temps are meant to be falling throughout the day down to around 23° atop Sugar and Beech. …and Sugar looks like they are going to make snow from now through Friday AM before things begin to moderate upwards to the mid 40s. Sugar and Cat have previously announced that they intend to reopen on Saturday. Looks like they will get a chance to make snow again Friday evening as temperatures dip to 22°.

Both Cat and Sugar made enough in last week’s Thursday-Friday window of opportunity and skied both last Saturday and Sunday and it looks like they should be able to make that happen again this weekend.

The seven day forecast ahead doesn’t look conducive for any FURTHER snowmaking after Friday evening for the next week ahead. Soooo, we’ll see how things go, but Sugar and Cataloochee INTEND to give you guys the ability to play this weekend and Snowshoe is trying to stick to their proposed opening of next Wednesday.

Snowshoe Mountain also began making snow again overnight last night and that continues Thursday morning. Daytime highs up that way aren’t expected to reach the freezing mark, so snowmaking should continue for almost another 24 hours. Overnight lows tonight are forecasted in the teens, which is GREAT news for Snowshoe’s snowmaking efforts. Friday night also provides another possible opportunity for snowmaking.

Laura Parquette wrote, "We’ll evaluate what we were able to accommplish snowmaking-wise last night, as well as what the forecast holds for next week, and make a decision regarding Opening Day in the next day or so. We’re still planning on next Wednesday, as of this morning, so keep up those snow dances!"

MORE BIG THINGS COMING!

We want to thank Terry Pfeiffer of Winterplace Ski Resort for joining our efforts in a huge way this season. We are shipping a brand new HD Streaming Camera to Winterplace this week. We’re also adding WinterplaceWeather.com to our LIVE data pull from Winterplace for the season. On top of that Winterplace is now part of our network of promotion and we’re looking forward to doing big things with Terry and his staff up there. We’ll be introducing you guys to Missy Cline up there pretty soon and we’re looking forward to featuring more content, videos and fun from Ghent, West Virginia this season.

We’ve now finalized plans with all of the West Virginia ski areas with the lone exception of Snowshoe Mountain – which admittedly is kind of weird. We’re excited to have more ski areas truly partnering with us this season than ever before and that should provide you – our visitors – with a wealth of insight and what’s happening this season.

Speaking of new cameras – Kenny Griffin just assisted an install of a new streaming camera on The Mast General Store on King Street in downtown Boone. You guys will be able to watch the Christmas Parade this month from the comfort of your home, ipad or smartphone. Technology is crazy great these days, huh? That new, King Street cam should go LIVE later today or Friday morning over on www.HighCountryWebCams.com !

Man we’ve got a lot going on this morning so I’m going to leave you guys with that and we’ll be updating you soon!
