Living in the mountains…

After seeing near-blizzard conditions most all day on Saturday with anywhere from 2" to 8.5" of snow and cold temps hovering around 30°, here we are this morning where I can walk out with a short-sleeved shirt on and beautiful blue skies…with the morning temperature around 47°. Amazing. Oh yea…the snow is all but gone as well. That is one thing about snow in the Spring…it disappears within one day of sunny skies.

Speaking of temperatures, Snowshoe Mountain Resort, which the lone resort still skiing and riding in the Southeast is reporting 30° this morning. They should enjoy spectacular Spring Conditions with sunny skies and temps near 50° today and soaring into the mid to upper 60s on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Five inches of snow over the weekend has helped the conditions for the final week of the season. Don’t miss out on those final turns of the season. The final week’s lift tickets will only cost $15 per person from today to Sunday, April 10.

Don’t forget, if you have a season pass with another resort in the region, you are in luck at Snowshoe Mountain for the last days of the season. If you book two nights of lodging through the end of the season, you will get your lift tickets for free. The free tickets are just for the pass holders. The Silver Creek Area is closed for the season.

High Winds were the norm Friday Night and Saturday! – Near 60mph winds were reported at Snowshoe this weekend. That prompted Snowshoe to close of few lifts that they intended to have open. A couple of people wrote in wondering why Grabhammer was closed and the word from the top was, "Grabhammer was closed because of a half dozen trees on the lift lines. After clearing the trees and hearing branches start breaking again, lift ops decided for safety reasons not to open Grabhammer."

That turned out to be a great call as four more trees fell on the lines later in the day.

So we’re down to one resort and SEVEN DAYS in which to enjoy it. If you’re in the area up there, get us a closing photo or two!
