Good GRACIOUS do things look great up at Snowshoe Mountain!

Anyone else feel like jumping in the car and heading to Hwy 219? We've been fielding PHONE CALLS all day from potential vacationers who want to head to the nearest open ski resort. Yea phone calls. It seems that our new website has one kind of cool byproduct to it. We're ranked ALL OVER the darn search engines and that's a great thing. However we've placed our office phone numbers on every page and OH MY LORD have the phone calls come in!

Right now we're asking everyone where they are asking about – North Carolina or West Virginia. For the NC calls we're telling them like it is – Cataloochee Ski Area looks the best right now in the state, with Sugar Mountain being the only other ski area open in the state. Cat and Sugar have been open for all but a couple of days since opening on Halloween. Some mild temps have caused conditions to go downhill a bit…but that's expected this time of year.

Snowshoe on the other hand has had their – customarily cooler temps – along with 30" of natural snow so far and they open TODAY for their earliest opening in TEN YEARS. So much for climate change or global you know what. Of course Snowshoe's snowmaking ops and groomers should get a great hand in how sweet things look up that way!

Today is Wednesday, Thanksgiving EVE…and there is no doubt where the best conditions in the region are right now and we'll just report and let you guys decide.

One quick look at our Photos of the Day from Snowshoe Mountain's Opening Day or the Snowshoe Opening Day Video will tell you all you need to know as to what things look like in Pocahontas County WV today! There were lots of corduroy conditions and lots of smiling faces!

Thanks to Ed Schneider and Kristi Ronchetti for sending those along!

MORE GREAT CONDITIONS ON THE WAY!

Turkey Day looks pretty nice and a bit on the milder-side-than-we'd like right now side of things, however by Friday night things look plenty cold enough for snowmaking and even a little natural snow or snow flurries across the mountains into the weekend. I just spoke with Talia Freeman from up at Beech Mountain and they are hoping to make snow beginning Friday night and maybe open the first of the week! Before you know it…we'll be seeing more trails and more resorts ready for prime time.

Talk with you guys on Thursday AM.
