Stay up to date by getting notified of new posts!

You guys have been emailing that you’ve enjoyed our comparative data showing what the weather was like last season at this time; what the records are and such, so we’ll keep that going.

For the record, we post all of the forecast summaries for all of the Southeast’s Ski Areas…however the data for record temps and such are posted for the High Country of Western North Carolina, since that is our base of operations.

Last year at this time we saw a high temp of 33° and a low of 22°.  That is about what we have happening today…which by the way will be some 10-15° colder than normal for highs this time of year.  The low tonight will be dead on the normal temps of 23°

The records for this time of year are:

73° (yikes!) for a high temp back in 2002!
minus 16° for a low temp in 1966

The record single day snowfall was 5.5” back in 1980.

The forecast for the Southeast’s Ski Areas are pretty varied today so follow closely:

The NC Mountains should see a little more light snow showers today, otherwise turning sunny later.  The high today should be 32° or so and tonight’s low will be great for snowmaking at 21°

Wednesday will be Partly Cloudy (a great day to enjoy all that snowmaking) and highs around 48°. Thursday and Friday look like a 40% chance of light rain and highs in the 40s and lows in the mid 30s.  Saturday looks like a Mostly Cloudy day with highs in the upper 30s to 40° and snowmaking should kick back in Saturday night with 27° or so.

Wisp Resort will be seeing some light snow today and temps in the 30s…dropping to 20° tonight.  Wednesday and Thursday should be nice with highs in the 40s and lows in the low 30s.  Friday looks like a 50% chance of UNDER-DEVELOPED snow (rain) and highs in the mid 40s.  Saturday looks like a rain to snow event.  Highs in the mid 30s and lows dropping into the low 20s.  Sunday looks like all snow and cold temps in the 20s all day.  Monday should be nice with highs in the low 30s and lows in the upper teens.

Snowshoe’s forecast will be a bit more complicated.  They are getting snow today.  1-4” could fall by tonight. Highs could stay in the 20s and lows tonight will be in the teens.  Wednesday and Thursday should be nice with highs in the upper 30s and lows in the 29° area.  Friday looks like a 50% chance of rain.  Saturday is a toss up.  It’s looking like a 50-50 shot at rain or rain/snow mix.  Highs in the upper 30s and lows around 20° so it could go either way.

Wintergreen Resort is seeing a mix of rain and snow this morning.  Wednesday and Thursday looks very pretty with highs near 50°.  Lows will be in the mid 30s.  Friday should be mostly sunny but a slight chance of light rain, though nothing to mess up the day. Saturday is looking a bit wet and other than tonight we’re not seeing any snowmaking until maybe Monday night.

Until Next Time!
