Today’s featured image is from Timberline Mountain.

Today, Punxsutawney Phil is our friend.

Ok, I don’t mind the furry little groundhog anytime, but I really like him when he sees his shadow (like he did today) because that means six more weeks of winter.

We will take all the winter we can get around here.

Speaking of Old Man Winter, it is a winter wonderland out my window and across the region as snow is falling across our glorious mountains.

Some of these totals are just awesome.

Wolf Ridge – 10″
Beech Mountain – 8″
Ober Gatlinburg – 6″
Sugar Mountain – 5″
Cataloochee – 4″
Snowshoe – 4″
Canaan Valley – 3.7″
Timberline – 3.7″
Wisp – 2″

If you combine those totals with what fell on Sunday and Monday morning (especially at the West Virginia resorts), we have surpassed a foot of natural snow.

That is fantastic.

A few other resorts have reported an inch or so as everyone has gotten in the snow act over the last few days.

Snow will continue to fall for most of the day today with an additional 2-4″ possible in some locations meaning free refills at some resorts.

For the latest conditions, be sure to hop over to the Snow Reports page.

A couple of notable items from around the region.

  • Wolf Ridge was the big winner in snow totals and it shows on the slopes as they were able to up their open trail count by 9. That gives them 15 open trails for today.
  • Appalachian has announced that Hard Core, Thin Slice, Appal Top Terrain Park, and Appal Jam Terrain Park will be closed today for concentrated snowmaking.
  • As expected, we are seeing a lot of resorts reporting powder, packed powder, or groomed surfaces. There is no doubt that conditions will be fantastic.
  • All resorts (as of 9a) had open capacity for today. We are seeing some resorts selling out for Saturday

As I mentioned it is a winter wonderland across the area. Take a look at some shots from over at Resortcams.com.

Conditions are going to be incredible today if you are lucky to slip out and make a few runs. If you do, be sure to send us over a few photos because we would love to see them.

That does it for today, but until next time, #ThinkSnow!
