We’ve had a number of lovers of Sapphire Valley Resort in North Carolina to email us questions pertaining to "What’s happening at Sapphire?"

The rumor mill even kicked in with three emails suggesting that there may be some new management/ownership scenarios such as that at Sky Valley in Georgia. That’s not the case.

We just spoke with RJ Grady of Sapphire Valley and the word is that they have been making snow in preparation for opening. The reason that they have opened as yet was certainly tied to early season weather woes and some additional technical difficulties with the installation of their new "Frozen Falls Tubing Park".

Grady said, "We’d certainly want to be open for the Christmas holiday week and that could still happen. However, we are looking at finishing with some tweaks to the park and we are also watching the possibility of rain coming in on Wednesday so while we’d love to open by Monday, December 27th, it is possible that our opening could be delayed a bit longer into that same week."

So there you have it. Sapphire Valley fans should be enjoying the snow within the next 7-10 days, weather permitting.

We liked this photo sent in by Joe Stevens because it supported the article that we wrote this weekend about snowmakers.
