Resorts are making snow!

First Trax

We’ve received many emails from around the region and here’s what we know as of 8PM Wednesday.

If you are looking for the BEST skiing for this weekend, then undoubtably you HAVE to pack the SUV and head to Snowshoe in West Virginia. They have had more consistent cold and have really cranked out the snow…and things are looking great for what should be 2 – 3 feet of base. Appalachian and Sugar Mountain in North Carolina are already open and are making snow tonight…and should offer more terrain and pretty sweet conditions for the weekend coming up. Cataloochee just started making snow today, but with added snowmaking opportunities over the next few nights, they will have plenty of snow for the weekend.

Here’s a summary as of tonight:

Appalachian is making snow all night tonight.
Cataloochee is making snow.
Sugar Mountain is making snow.

We have no word or confirmation from Hawksnest, Ski Beech or Wolf Laurel in North Carolina. We’re guessing Hawksnest and Wolf Laurel are making snow but we will verify that in the AM. Ski Beech may be waiting for more consistent weather.

IN VIRGINIA: None of the resorts are reporting that they have fired up the guns…but we’re betting that they all have. We will confirm that in the AM as well.

IN TENNESSEE: Ober Gatlinburg said that they would make snow tonight.

IN WEST VIRGINIA:

Snowshoe is the only resort that we KNOW has been making snow and they will be THE PLACE to ski or ride this weekend.

No word from Canaan, Timberline or Winterplace but it would seem that they will all crank up tonight. Again, we will confirm in the AM so check back.

IN MARYLAND:

Wisp IS making snow and shooting for December 10th opening.

Check back in the AM as we update this report.
