Bike Magazine Monster Park Slopestyle Invitational and Powerade Race Series # 3

SNOWSHOE W.Va. – The weekend of August 18 – 20, 2006, will fill Snowshoe Mountain with some of the world’s top slopestyle, freeride and downhill riders.  Snowshoe is teaming up with Bike Magazine to present the Third Annual Monster Park Slopestyle Invitational.  The Monster Park competition will take freeride biking to a whole new level, showcasing 28 of the world’s most skilled freeride athletes, competing for the top three positions and an $8,000 cash purse on Sunday.

The third race of the Powerade Race Series will also take place this weekend, on Friday and Saturday, August 18 – 19.  With only two races remaining and $40,000 on the line, every second counts.  The races are progressively becoming more challenging, especially with the addition of the West Ridge Road gap jump at the top section of the downhill course.

The race weekend will feature some of the mountain biking world’s top professionals including former world champion Missy “The Missile” Giove, the fastest female mountain biker in the world, who has come out of retirement to race at Snowshoe.  Competitors in the Monster Park Invitational, who will be throwing X-Games caliber stunts, include such professionals as Darren Berrecloth, Robbie Bourdon, Kyle Ebbett and Steve Romaniuk.  Riders will be available for autograph signing immediately following the finals on Sunday.

The idea for the Monster Park comes from the popular winter ski and snowboard terrain park events, with challenging features such as wall rides, ladder bridges and quarter pipes.  Guests can watch the thrilling and spectator friendly competition as early as Friday with a practice session from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The qualifying competition and Nike Jump Jam will be Saturday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday’s finals will be from noon to 4 p.m.
