The Southeast and Mid-Atlantic ski resorts have been seeing particularly good conditions here lately and are making hay.  The temps for the most part have stayed near or below freezing and the resorts are pumping out the snow.  A bit of natural doesn’t hurt either, huh?

Wisp Resort in Maryland has received an additional 2” of natural snow yesterday and more is on the way through tomorrow.  Moving south a bit, Timberline was also seeing snow and opened another run this morning to bring their total to 15 of 40.

Snowshoe has kept themselves busy and out of trouble and as a result has opened up 2 more runs bringing their total open terrain to 113 acres.  Winterplace has also opened up 2 additional runs and are up to 20 of their 27 slopes.

Over in Virginia, Wintergreen is reporting another 4” added to their base.  The Homestead is open for ice skating and has laid down a base, but we are still waiting on official word of their opening.  Once they open, all of the Virginia ski areas will be operational.

North Carolina is seeing a bit warmer temps during the day with plenty of blue sky.  The temperature at Ober Gatlinburg was 31 yesterday morning when I was updating the ski reports and is 42 this morning.  Ober opened Upper Big Bear which means they are skiing from 3/4.

Sugar has been laying it down as well and has re-opened one of their diamonds, Tom Terrific.  We reported on this before but it is worth mentioning that Cataloochee is skiing from the top now with their top black diamond, Upper Omigosh.  And finally, our southernmost resort, Sapphire Valley is scheduled to open tomorrow which will bring all of the North Carolina Resorts online.

Sapphire Valley in NC and The Homestead in Virginia are our only two hold outs right now, and with Sapphire’s anticipated opening tomorrow all sights will be on The Homestead.

Taking a look at what our member have been up to – marzski uploaded some great pics and commentary of Massanutten, while Dracan6 braved Sugar on Sunday night.

Great to see that you all are taking advantage of some great, still early season, conditions.  The crowds are going to start to grow from here.

Have a great day out there today.  My legs are really just now starting to get back to normal from skiing Appalachian, Sugar, and Beech on Friday – embarrassing I know.
