Although Winter does not officially begin for another week or so, the temperatures are now saying otherwise. Most all of the resorts began making snow Friday (some Saturday). Temps warmed a bit yesterday and overnight lows prohibited some resorts from resuming their snowmaking efforts (See Ski Report) but temps are now on their way down…down…down.

At 8am, Snowshoe Mountain is reporting 23° and temps are heading south from here! Snowmaking is in FULL FORCE, preparing for great ski and riding conditions. Snowshoe has told us that they expect to have at least 20 trails open by this weekend and with the kind of forecasted temps on tap from now through AT LEAST the 19th we will probably see Snowshoe 100% open by Christmas. What a nice present that would be!

All of the rest of the resorts around the Southeast began making snow Saturday and most are now beginning to scramble to open later in this week or at least by this weekend.

The forecast for this weekend is expected to be beautiful, with normal temps and overnight lows that will allow additional snowmaking.

Winter IS HERE and now we can look forward to great ski conditions, more resorts opening throughout the week and more terrain to play on.
