Ski College Mountain, or College Mountain, was a planned ski area located near Emmetsburg, Maryland. While this area never came to fruition and the planning never made it off the paper, the initial plans were to build a lodge, restaurant and scenic nature trails.

There is speculation that part of the reason the resort never opened was due to opposition from St. Mary’s College located in SE Maryland. There is no real indication as to why they would oppose the ski area other than the college may have owned land near the projected location.

College Mountain had a 1,000 foot vertical drop and the proposed location was on a 500 acre mountain. A “select timber harvest” was implemented to carve rough ski trails out of the 1,710 foot high mountain.

If you have any information or photos about this ski area, post here or drop us an email at [email protected]. This portion of the messageboard was implemented so that those who have skied or played at any of the closed ski areas can share their experiences and discuss "old times". Understand that the content shared may not be 100% accurate.
