I’ve been digging through the forum and decided I should be a member so I can ask for guidance and share some as well.

I have skied for years as a young adult and once we had (3) kids, life has kept us off the slopes. Last year we were able to head to Colorado for a week and my kids loved it. This year, I really want to head up the east coast and do a little skiing.

I was planning on Snowshoe, but after seeing some posts Massanutten or Timberline might be better choices. My (3) kids and wife are still beginners and I just want to find them a fun place to ski. I am also happy to ski with them and don’t need to test my “long-lost” abilities. Who sings, I’m not as good as I once was…? Ha.

You’re about 15 years late for the party, but there are a few hanger ons still floating around this place. As far as places on the east coast, Snowshoe is top of the list. Big mountain full resort, plenty of terrain for all skill levels and you never have to leave the mountain. Anywhere you decide to go, as long as weather is good, will be a good time, so many places have done so much reinvestment the last couple years.

Hello there! Good for you for finding the right section to introduce yourself.

As you may have noticed, Massanutten is my home mountain. It is by far better for a family with beginners over Snowshoe in my opinion. My daughter learned to ski at Mnut, as have friends from NC. Of course, for me it's only a 4-hour drive compared to 6-7 hours to Snowshoe.

Timberline is good for beginners. Especially if you get a house right on a slope. The beginner lift terrain is lit for night skiing, so can get in an extra hour or two either late afternoon or after supper. The long green from the top is a favorite for beginners from the DC area. The vibe is way more relaxed than at Snowshoe. Being able to get a credit when skiing less than 4 hours a day can be helpful when staying a few days.
