Savage River State Forest Ski Resort had a 20 year lifespan from 1940 to 1960. This ski area was 3,300 feet long with a vertical of Savage River opened in January of 1940 with a beginners slalom course and an expert ski trail. Skiers could use a rope town on the beginner terrain, and a car shuttle was used on the expert ski trail.



In addition to the beginner and expert level terrain, Savage River also offered extensive cross-country trails. Savage River State Forest now has 10 miles of cross country ski trails. The area is also now known as New Germany State Park.
