Snowshoe - Silver Creek - abandoned expansion

Maybe not exactly the right location for this, since Silver Creek is hardly lost, but.....

Poking around on SkiMap.org, I found the following ancient (well, 33 years old) trail map from Silver Creek:

Looks like there was a lot more trails planned for Silver Creek at one time - would have more than doubled the trail count and acreage. Looking at a modern satellite pic of Silver Creek, nothing was ever built in the proposed area, so I assume it was a money thing. Was this before Snowshoe acquired Silver Creek?

Just curious if anyone knows the story here?

I remember those old ski maps and that was before Snowshoe purchased Silver Creek. I imagine the developer had grand plans to help bring in the original investors.

If memory serves actually it was a Japanese owned company that bought Snowshoe in the early 90s and then bought Silver Creek soon afterwards. The resort was then bought by Intrawest in the mid 90s and that's when they broke ground on the Village, upgraded Ball Hooter and Cupp Run Lifts and cut Shay's Revenge. Intrawest really made Snowshoe into what it is now but you can still find old artifacts from the Brigham days: Powder Monkey Lift, Skidder Lift: Grabhammer Lift (formerly Hawthorne Lift), Shavers Center, and obviously the pre-Village logding that still exists.

Getting back to SC, other than relocating the former 4-pack Ball Hooter lift (it has gone from a FG Triple to FG Quad to Detached Quad) to where it exists now (Robertson Run), installing the magic carpet and of course the snowmaking, the terrain at Silver Creek has largely remained the same since it was built in the early-mid 80s. I love skiing SC though so I'm not complaining.
