Alpine Lake in West Virginia began as a gated, private community. As the community grew amenities, such as skiing, were added.

Skiing at Alpine Lake, sometimes called Terra Alta included a 450 foot vertical. Two t-bars and one rope tow gave skiers access to the ski hill. The rope tow let to a beginner slope. Alpine Lake had ski-in and ski-out houses as well as access to a pool and hot tubs. The Alpine Lake/Terra Alta ski shop was located in the basement of the lodge. The restaurant and lounge had stunning panoramas of West Virginia scenery. In 1975 it was recorded there were 82 days of skiing.

Today Alpine Lake has 9 miles of cross country trails, 6 miles of back country trails, lakeside trails, and golf.

The only part of it that isn't completely grown over is the bunny slope, which they charged me $5 to hike. Complete waste of time.
