I'm no weather expert (though I plan to be one day) but starting Thursday night and lasting through Saturday night I think there is a 99% chance of a MAJOR snowstorm. According to my judgement and forecast models (I'm aware of extra snow falling on the backside of a storm due to northwest flow, which normally adds 2-5 inches of snow that models don't account for) I think Snowshoe is in for 24-36 inches of snow in that time period I mentioned above. Still a little early, so give or take 5 inches from my estimation. I think there's an 80% of 26 inches or more of snow. This weekend will be EPIC, if you can get up there. Sugar looks to be 10-18 inches right now and Winterplace looks to have 16-27 inches. Keep in mind, these totals will fluctuate. And just in case you're heading to Virginia, looks like those ski areas will get about the same as the North Carolina ski areas. If any of y'all are able to go skiing this weekend, have fun and good luck on your journey to your destination!

This event is still 4 days out. I'd hold off on throwing out numbers until we get closer. Suffice to say, it looks like a significant snow event for at least WV and Virginia, probably the NC ski areas as well.
WOOOOOO!

SS or TL would be the s***,but if you can't get out that far, imagine skiing powder in NC!I hope it stays cold for a while after said storm,it would be depressing to see warm, rainy weather melt such bountiful snow!

Very exciting news. I have a high school wrestling tournament I am running on Friday night/ Saturday and will be leaving hopefully mid afternoon to head up from Atlanta to the wolf for Sunday - Monday skiing on some groupon tix that were really cheap. I tried to enter in Mars hill on my weather bug but can't get any local stations . The closest I picked up was Asheville where we are staying Saturday & Sunday night on some hhonors points I have accumulated from my job. Hopefully the storm has a chance to get over that way as well.
