The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard
The messageboard is now in read-only mode and no new posts or topics can be created. We will leave the messageboard up for historical purposes, but you will not be able to make new posts or comment on existing ones.
We have started a Discord server and hope that you all will join us on there. Technology has changed over the years and maintaining the messageboard has become somewhat of a pain in the butt and Discord offers many features for users, the main one being a very polished mobile app.

Anyone been to Sugar recently?

I am thinking of heading to Sugar on Friday for the last ski trip of this year. I am curious about the conditions up top as they normally get bare spots. I am bringing my 6 year old for her last time, may have her try Tom Terrific or Gunther's Way as she is getting pretty good and the snow should be softer and a little forgiving if she falls a couple times. If you have been in the past few days could you let me know the snow conditions. Thanks.

I was up exactly a week ago, so not sure if this still applies, but the main run was in excellent shape (but I'm one of those people that likes riding in slush) - still has a good base, no bare spots at the time - but I bet the Switchback corridor under the old mid-unloading station didn't survive the week. Tom Terrific was starting to show a couple thin spots, so I can only assume its worse by now, but it had good coverage. Gunther's also wasn't in bad shape, but the bottom where it hits Easy Street is probably a mess by now (you might have to walk through some mud). If you're going up specifically for Gunther's and Tom, you might be disappointed, but if you're satisfied with the main run as a back up, and like riding soft, forgiving (but slow) slush, then I say go for it. Not like there's another chance for 8 months 
Here's a couple pics - didn't take one directly of Tom, but they may help you make your mind. Wish I could offer more insight. I have a couple GoPro runs of both Tom and Gunthers I could grab some screen caps of when I get home.
The real question is, how far do you have to drive? I wouldn't drive 3 hours up for what i see on the camera now, but if it <1.5 hours then why not?

Brigand, thanks for the details and photos. I like all the runs at Sugar. Sounds like typical spring conditions for Sugar. It is a 3 hour drive but we have a house on Beech so it is not a big deal to stay the night and ski the next day. I am also looking at it as there is no skiing for 8 months and it will be a good day to spend with my 6 year old daughter. Thanks again for the details.
