This is awesome.

Winter Storm Izzy certainly delivered the snow, and it is still coming down this morning.

We have seen nearly a foot of snowfall at several resorts this morning, and we are expecting more today.

Pretty freaking sweet.

It is hard not to be excited as you look outside and see a winter wonderland this morning with the snow continuing to fall.

Mike noted this morning that it was blizzard-like conditions at his house with the wind howling and still dumping the snow.

That was also the case at Beech and Sugar this morning as the winds have picked up and we have some big snowflakes falling.

Just take a look at some of these shots.

Blizzard-like conditions atop Sugar Mountain this morning.
Massive flakes are continuing to fall at Cataloochee.
Snowshoe is socked in with some as it was dumping this morning.
It is great to see Ober Gatlinburg have some massive flakes falling this morning.
A beautiful shot in a snow break from Wintergreen.

Don’t forget to you can always check conditions over at Resortcams.com.

Since Sunday morning, Cataloochee and App Ski Mountain are the big winners so far as they have just over 11″ of fresh powder. Beech Mountain, Sugar Mountain, and Sapphire Valley all have had a fresh 10″ since Sunday morning.

Of note, Sapphire Valley is closed again today due to road conditions in the area.

The snow hasn’t been confined to the North Carolina resorts as all but one resort has received at least six inches of snow since yesterday morning.

Snowshoe, Timberline, Canaan Valley, Bryce, and Wolf Ridge are all around the 9″ mark, while Massanutten, Wintergreen, and Wisp Resort are reporting in the 8″ range.

Omni Homestead and Winterplace are both sitting around six inches this morning.

Ober Gatlinburg missed out on the first round of snow yesterday, but they are making up for it today as it looks like a snowglobe there this morning.

So far, they have received 2″-3″ of fresh snow.

A big thanks to Mike for tagging in to help with the snow totals this morning. As he wrote yesterday, the snow reporting is fluid especially in multiday systems like this one.

A couple of notable items from the snow report.

  • App Ski Mountain, Beech Mountain, Cataloochee, and Bryce Resort are all open at 100%.
  • Snowshoe was able to up their open slopes to 44 this morning. Widowmaker will be delayed opening as they will have race training ongoing this morning.
  • Massanutten shared that things may be a bit delayed today as things thaw out and staff can get in. I imagine Massanutten won’t be the only resort that sees some delays today due to the wind, snow, and road conditions.
  • Snowshoe will be in a wind hold this morning on the three detachable lifts (Ballhooter, Soaring Eagle and Western Express). All fixed-grip lifts will be in operation.
  • It is going to be a cold day so dress in layers and warm.
  • Four-wheel drive and/or chains are required to access App Ski’s Ski Mountain Road. I haven’t seen anything official, but it is probably a safe bet that the same is required for the drive up to Beech Mountain.

Mike did a quick video this morning with a tour of snow and conditions so be sure to check it out.

The best part is that we will add to these totals once again today as we transition to our Northwest Flow snow portion of the event. We could see an additional 3-5″ today on top of what we already have.

If you can get to the slopes safely, today is going to be an incredible pow day with free refills.

Before traveling to your intended resort today, I highly recommend checking in to be sure they have walk-up tickets available if you have been unable to advance purchase.

We saw several resorts sell out on Sunday, and we are seeing some limited availability for today.

It is going to be awesome.

Snowshoe shared a great video from Silver Creek last night showcasing the pow conditions.

You can expect more of the same today.

It is going to be a busy day so be sure to follow us over on social media for the latest. You can find us on Facebook at Facebook.com/skisoutheast as well as at @SkiSoutheast on Twitter and Instagram.

While we are enjoying today’s snow, don’t look now, but we have a couple of shots of some more snow later in the week.

This pattern flip has been awesome, and hopefully, we can keep the momentum going.

That does it for today, but keep #ThinkSnow vibe going!
