Opening Day is here.
The 2022-23 ski season is set to kick off at 9a when Sugar Mountain and Cataloochee load the first chairs of the year.
Sugar is going to play on six slopes – which are Northridge, Switchback, Upper Flying Mile, Lower Flying Mile, Easy Street, and Tiny Tim/Connection. Sugar is going to have the Summitt Express and Easy Street lift spinning today.
They are playing on an 8-22″ base with a manmade and frozen granular surface.
Mike was slopeside at Sugar yesterday, and things were looking pretty fantastic all things considered.

Cataloochee is also set to crank things up this morning, and they will be open from midstation down.
They haven’t officially decided on an open slope count just yet, but we will update as soon as we hear.
Both will be open for day sessions only.

Conditions look fantastic after the snowmaking teams have been hard at work.
It is amazing how fast things turned around once the cold air and natural snow arrived this weekend.
Snowmaking operations continued for several other resorts as they prep for their opening dates.
The best part – the colder weather is going to be sticking around this week offering some quality snowmaking windows.
