It’s Almost Time to Start Counting Fog

It is almost time to start looking for fog.

My hope is that we have fog for 31 days straight starting on Saturday. Why you may ask?

Weatherlore shares that for each foggy morning we have in August equals one snow in the winter. Who doesn’t want a lot of snow?

The mountain tradition of placing a bean in a jar for each foggy morning in the month to help keep count. We have our jar and beans ready for the count.

Last August, we finished with 15 fogs at the Ski Southeast offices – the year before we had 22. However, several locations broke into the 20’s last year so it is location dependent. Here are the number of foggy August mornings for the past four years:

August 2019 – 15
August 2018 – 22
August 2017 – 18
August 2016 – 21

If the trend continues, we could have a really nice fog count unless August pulls a 2020 on us.

It is an exciting time as we have started some of our preseason work behind the scenes a little bit ahead of schedule – it always seems that August 1 is our “unofficial” preseason start to get things cranking for the season.

There are some really cool things in the pipeline.

That does it for today. Until next time, #ThinkSnow and #ThinkFog for good measure.
