Happy New Years Eve!

The last day of 2019 brought along some much needed cold air as the snow guns are cranked at several resorts this morning. As a cherry on top, we could even see some light snow later today and tonight at the northern resorts to cap off the decade.

Things are refreshing at Snowshoe this morning.

The big story of the morning is that Old Man Winter has arrived.

After warm springlike conditions the past few days, we have the first extended snowmaking window in over 10 days and the resorts will take advantage as they can.

As Kenny noted yesterday, the effects of the mild and wet weather were becoming apparent on the cameras, but things are already looking better at the resorts that are making snow with a few resorts able to add a couple of inches to their base in a few hours.

Check out this video from Wolf Ridge as they were putting the snow down this morning.

On top of the cold, the northern resorts could see an inch or two of snow tonight during the New Year’s festivities. Those resorts should also be able to keep the snowmaking going full tilt for the next 48 hours or so.

Not a bad way to start 2020.

On the flip side, there are a few resorts that haven’t been able to get snowmaking cranked up just yet, but they will flip the switch as soon as they get the opportunity today and tonight.

For the latest conditions, be sure to head over to the Snow Report.

On days like today, also be sure to check out resortcams.com – it will be cool to check how quickly things progress today.

There are a ton of events happening today at the individual resorts to welcome 2020 – including Snowshoe, App Ski Mountain, Bryce Resort, Sugar Mountain, Ober Gatlinburg, and Canaan to name a few. Be sure to check your favorite resort’s website for information on their New Years’ Eve celebration and to purchase tickets.

It is going to be a great day to wrap up 2019 and I hope you are able to get on the slopes.

That will be it for this morning, but be sure to check back as Mike and Kenny will be sharing content from Snowshoe throughout the day.

Until next time, #ThinkSnow!
