Good Sunday Morning Skiers & Snowboarders…

It’s a little bit of a mixed bag of conditions across the region this morning and that will probably carry on throughout the day. As I looked around the region this morning I saw some light rain, some snow falling and sunny skies. It does seem that the more significant rainfall that was in the forecast earlier in the week is more of a light drizzle in some areas.

Check the SNOW REPORT for all the deets.

Only 4 of our 16 member resorts made snow overnight. There were those that could have done so as temperatures were in the low twentys at some locations like Wisp Resort, Timberline, and Canaan Valley.

Those resorts that did make snow were Massanutten Resort, Snowshoe Mountain, Canaan Valley and Wintergreen Resort.

The biggest surprise of the morning for me was seeing that while a couple of Virginia ski areas saw a dusting of natural snow, Winterplace Resort in southern, West Virginia received 3″.

We posted the video SNOW REPORT over on our Facebook page first thing. I almost didn’t post one because quite honestly I wasn’t certain if you guys would much appreciate me coughing a few times. I went ahead with it…and you can watch it here as well.

Whatever the Weather

We know whatever the weather, we are going to have a great day here on the mountain.

Today we are skiing on a 61-95″ base on 15 slopes. Today we offer three sessions of skiing and riding: day skiing from 8:30am-4:30pm, twilight skiing from 1pm-10pm and night skiing from 6pm until 10pm with a morning or afternoon half day rate available.

MASSANUTTEN RESORT
SNOW TUBING IS SOLD OUT FOR TODAY!

OBER GATLINBURG
Forecast for rain has lightened, but will be a bit of a wet day… Despite any “rain” in the forecast the slopes will remain in good skiing/snowboarding condition and we look forward to seeing everyone out for this holiday weekend! Remember we have clothing rentals (jackets, bibs and helmets) so you can keep your clothes dry!

SNOWSHOE MOUNTAIN
Another night of snowmaking and top notch grooming has the mountain in great shape this morning. The weather today could be a bit of a “mixed bag” so gear up appropriately. There is a possibility of freezing precipitation in the forecast which could potentially impact operations of our high-speed quad lifts. For your safety and the safety of others, please ski/ride under control at all times and respect all trail signage. Mountaineer is open as a ski trail without park features. Widowmaker will be delayed until 11AM for ski team training.

The Ridiculous Pass is back! Stay tuned for more details coming very soon.

WINTERGREEN RESORT – Clever post from the folks at Wintergreen!
We the Skiers
…of Wintergreen Resort, in order to have a perfect day on the slopes, enjoy as much time with family and friends and seize the moment, do ordain and establish this constitution of the President’s Holiday Weekend.

To ski groomers this morning on freshly made snow (Thanks SNOWPOWER!)
To laugh and laugh loud
To take selfies with Ridgley & the Presiden’ts (be sure to tag us #wintergreenresortva)
To enjoy a well-deserved cold one during the Tap Takeover at Checkerberry Cabin from 1- 4pm
To experience a unique SnowCat ride from 9:30 – 10:30pm tonight
WINTERPLACE RESORT
Big winner with 3″ of natural snowfall. That was a snow cloud that was literally right on target for Ghent and Winterplace!

SAPPHIRE VALLEY
We tried to tune in for the LIVE video feed for the Outhouse Races at Sapphire Valley Resort, however it seems that perhaps they suffered from some of the very same technical issues that we have experienced when trying to post a LIVE feed from certain mountains.

Those technical issues are beginning to be a thing of the past as more and more resorts have better cell coverage, WIFI, etc.

We’ll be posting more via Instagram and Facebook later…be sure to FOLLOW US on social media. Simply search “SkiSoutheast” via Instagram and Facebook and you’ll find us.
