It’s going to be a fantastic Friday – like use a day off if you have it fantastic.
Up to 4 inches of natural snow fell in parts of the region yesterday while everyone has been able to take advantage of the cold for snowmaking. As good as last weekend was on the slopes, this weekend has the potential to be even better.
Hence – today would be a great day to take off and take hit the slopes (we won’t tell).
It is nice and cold out this morning as we have temperatures in the single digits and low teens area-wide. That has been perfect for the mountain operation crews to do their thing as they have been creating manmade blizzards since late yesterday.
The headline of the morning is the snow that fell – even though it was really contained to the North Carolina and Tennessee resorts. The winter setting driving to the office this morning was extremely peaceful.
The seven resorts in that area were definitely the big winners. Some of the totals include:
Beech Mountain – 4”
Sugar Mountain -4”
Ober Gatlinburg – 4”
Cataloochee – 3.2”
Wolf Ridge – 3”
That is a great way to start a weekend.
App Ski Mountain and Sapphire Valley each picked up just over an inch of natural snow yesterday, while a couple of the northern resorts had a trace of natural snow.
For the full conditions, be sure to visit the Snow Reports page.
Some resorts are closing open terrain today for focused snowmaking so be on the lookout for changing conditions.
The resorts didn’t disappoint on social media as there were a ton of great posts yesterday and so far this morning.
Ober was showing off their winter wonderland last night over on Facebook.
It is going to be a busy weekend at the Gatlinburg resort as they are hosting Spring Fling this weekend and they are throwing it back to the ’80s.
Speaking of going back to the ’80s, it is Retro Weekend at Beech Mountain, and they have a ton of events scheduled to relive the decade. It all starts today with the 80’s Ski Apparel Parade.

Wintergreen was showing off their corduroy late yesterday after snowmaking and grooming with some incredible photos (including our photo of the day).
Goodness – it looks incredible.
Omni Homestead reminded us to keep and calm and ski on since the weekend was fast approaching.
Snowshoe previewed conditions and what is on tap this weekend at 4848′.
Bryce Resort wrapped up one of the coolest programs around yesterday. During the winter, they host The Hills School for once a week as the students learn the in’s and out’s of skiing and riding. Yesterday, they hosted their own Olympics to mark the end of the weekly visits for the year.
Awesome stuff.
It is going to be a fantastic weekend. Be sure to tag us on social media with your photos and videos because we would love to see your adventures (and even feature them here!).
That does it for today, but until next time – #ThinkSnow!
