That WICKED WIND subsided late yesterday afternoon and everything was back to normal pretty quickly. The cold air continued to envelop the region last night with temps hovering about the same for two consecutive nights. Around ten resorts were able to lay down a couple inches of directed snow adding some ‘quality’ to their base depths.

Today we see warming temps as just about everyone is above the freezing mark mid-morning. The warming trend continues, and it looks like the next couple nights we will be in a thawing cycle.

Keep your eyes peeled on the weather, though, because we have some natural snow and/or cold temps returning soon. The beginning of March looks to be quite the charmer!

All three open WV resorts made snow overnight!

  • Snowshoe Mountain:
    • Groomed on 53 (of 59) today . . . “Overnight temperatures have been dipping low enough for our groomers to get things back in pristine condition after every session.”
    • Snowmaking on (6) Heisler Way, Log Slide, Powder Monkey, Cross Cut, Gandy Dancer, and Lower Cupp Run
    • Closed this week . . . “Spruce will be closed this week for the build of Berming Man.”
  • Canaan Valley:
    • ” . . . We continue aggressive snow making operations on many slopes. Gravity, Buck Run, Lower Canaan Curve, and Critter Crawl will all be closed to maximize snow making.
      • These trails will reopen later this week . . . ready for the weekend.
    • Governors Cup (race) this weekend . . . “The forecast for the upcoming weekend is looking great, with snow predicted for Sunday.”
  • Winterplace: Currently 27F . . . . Snow making is on!

NC sees more snowmaking overnight, resulting in more terrain today!

  • Cataloochee:
    • More terrain re-opened! . . . “With snowmaking continuing the slope count has moved to 14 and we have added Upper Snowbird Trail back into the mix.”
    • Base depth increase . . .  “Today we are on a base of 52-86″ on a groomed base and offer three sessions.”
    • Warm mid-week, BUT Upcoming cold air . . . “Forecasts indicate that far colder temperatures will begin again next week and we will be ready.”
  • Beech Mountain:
      • Base depth Increase . . . 36-68″ on PACKED POWDER / Variable snow conditions
      • Beech has got the guns fired up . . .

  • Appalachian Ski Mountain: Looking really nice at App this morning. Gotta love that mountain view from the top.

  • Sapphire: Last chance to get to Sapphire this Winter . . .
“THIS IS OUR SEASON ENDING WEEK!

FINAL WEEKEND OPENS FRIDAY AT NOON!”

Wisp might receive 1-2″ of snow before the weekend!

  • Wisp: Snow in the forecast this Thursday night
    • Groomed on 27 (of 29) runs. Ungroomed . . . Randalls Run and The Face
    • Currently 20F . . . Snowmaking on 9 runs
    • Recent POV shot from Wisp

VA: all is quiet on the ‘windy front’ today

  • Massanutten: 100% Open until 5pm.
    • “Sunshine, highs in the mid 40s with overnight snowmaking (on 6 runs) freshening things up nicely. Great day ahead for skiing and riding.
    • Tuesdays are for tubing – everyone tubes today for $15.
    • Ski lifts close at 5:00pm today.
    • Snow Moon Fest with Fireworks this weekend.”
  • Wintergreen: 100% Open until 8pm.
    • “Don’t miss out on these fabulous midweek ski and ride days. Did I hear a cough? Maybe you need a snowday! . . . And tomorrow will be the same.”
    • Wintergreen: Sunshine Session this morning

  • Bryce: A first hand account of the wind, yesterday, from Bryce, “I was on patrol duty and we operated on our regular schedule but were a little late opening, about 9:30 to 10am, due to downed trees, limbs, etc. (It was a WICKED WIND yesterday). Skiing was GOOD for those who braved the wind.”
    • Bryce dedicated the new Shenandoah Center at 11am this past Saturday . . . check it out!
  • Homestead: Having a great season . . .
    • ” . . . Open for skiing, snowboarding, tubing and mini snowmobiles today.”
      • “However, please not that tubing will not open until 1pm” . . . I suspect they have to reshape the tubing slope
    • Snowmaking is underway and will continue throughout the day as long as conditions permit

Ober gets a boost!

  • Ober:
    • “We made snow yesterday morning, making a nice surface for us to slide on!”
      • Base depth boost from 15-25″ TO 15-30″
      • 5 runs open; Mogul, Upper Bear, Cub Way, Castle and Ski School, open at Noon today

That’s all for today.
