appalachian ski mountain plans to open

Stay up to date by getting notified of new posts!

You have to know that it is a GOOD THING when you can’t get an awesome photo at many of the ski areas this morning (via their webcams) … because of the snowmaking efforts!

Something close to a BLIZZARD is happening at MANY of the ski mountains this morning and that has everyone excited – both BECAUSE of the snow-covered slopes and because that means that more ski areas will be opening VERY SOON.

Since Thankgiving is this Thursday, we’ve thought that we answered the many emails that we’re getting about WHICH resorts might be open for Thursday. Let’s FIRST report that TWO ski areas ARE open today (Sugar and Cataloochee) and Appalachian Ski Mountain plans to open tomorrow.

We COULD see Beech Mountain Resort open as well.

That’s IT for those that ARE open or that we KNOW of that will be open for the next few days. To further complicate things, the forecast is looking like the “mild up” that was talked about last week IS going to happen. There IS snowmaking happening this morning at the West Virginia and North Carolina ski areas and there has been a good bit of snowmaking at most ski areas over the last 48 hours but that MIGHT be all of the snowmaking that we’ll see this week with an outside shot at some snowmaking Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

That SHOULD keep Cataloochee, Sugar and Appalachian open AND make for Turkey Day skiing and snowboarding at THOSE resorts. Snowshoe will be open Thanksgiving Day for everything EXCEPT skiing and snowboarding – but that’s probably the only ski areas to ski or ride THIS week.

As the forecast below reflects – there may some light rain Friday through the weekend. So, stay tuned and we’ll update you as we get further into this week ahead.
