After the holidays and with the recent unseasonably warm, wet weather, it’s good to take stock of of things. Let’s go on a visual tour of the 11 resorts that are open today.

Might get JUST below freezing tonight in VA:

Bryce: still claiming a 40″ base. A little thin toward the edges, browning in the middle, but not bad.

Bryce: a little thin toward the edges.

Massanutten: 20″ base. From Massanutten . . . “Chance of a few hours of marginal snowmaking tonight, the snowmakers will be on standby to take advantage of any opportunity that arises.

Substantial base, evidenced by the lip on the left of the trail.

Wintergreen: 24″+. From Wintergreen (Mountain Message Blog), “We didn’t lose any terrain overnight and we’ll open with 10 slopes.”

A healthy amount of snow at the bottom of Blue Ridge Express

NC resorts that are open are maintaining decent base depths:

Appalachian Ski Mountain: 35 – 63″ base. 9 trails (including 2 terrain parks) and 5 lifts.

Good coverage from edge-to-edge

Beech Mountain: 34 – 48″ base. 6 trails (terrain park closed) and 4 lifts.

Foggy, but no thin spots on trail

Cataloochee: 37-67″ base. 10 trails and 5 lifts.

Looking good at CAT. A touch thin toward skiers left.

mid-to-upper WV is experiencing freezing temps

Canaan Valley: 18-24″ base. Trails are still in a ‘fairly healthy’ state. Temps have dropped throughout the early am.

Good coverage throughout

Snowshoe: 36″ base. 47 trails alive and well. Temps are currently below freezing at ‘Shoe.

Silver Creek looks to be fun today.

Winterplace: 14-34″ base. 8 trails . . . has seen better days.

Winterplace: could be better

Wisp is holding pretty steady

Wisp: 14″ base . . . Don’t let the number fool you. There is still B+ coverage at Wisp.

Looks like a good run to me

The outlook is not great for Ober

Ober: 10-12″ base . . . About the minimum that is skiiable. Hike-up or ride the carpet. Tubing is still a big hit at Ober though . . . Sold out until Jan. 7th.

Hard to see, but quite thin.

Wolf, Timberline, Homestead, Oglebay, are all awaiting colder weather. Sapphire is closed today as planned.

That’s all for today.

We’d REALLY LOVE IT…if you would:
