WINTERGREEN, VAOnce again the readers of the Washington Post chose Wintergreen Resort, Virginia ’s premier mountain resort, as it’s “Best Place to Golf and Ski.”

Actually Wintergreen Resort topped TWO categories of the Washington Post’s 5th Annual Readers’ Choice Awards. While naming it the best place for year round recreation, their readers also named them as their top Ski Resort as well!

“For more than 30 years, Wintergreen has provided exceptional service, outstanding facilities and memorable experiences to guests who visit our Blue Ridge Mountain resort,” said Bob Ashton, President, Wintergreen Resort. “We are committed to continually improving and enhancing our year-round facilities and services, having made significant recent investments in our winter sports, golf courses, spa, and other resort amenities. We are thrilled that these improvements have been recognized and appreciated by readers of the Washington Post.”

For the second year in a row, the Washington Post Readers’ Choice Awards named Wintergreen the “Best Ski Resort,” topping ski areas such as Snowshoe, Seven Springs, Liberty , and Massanutten. For skiers and snowboarders, Wintergreen offers 24 slopes on 125 skiable acres. The resort also features two thrilling snowtubing parks, a terrain park, high-speed chairlifts and one of the country’s best snowmaking systems, allowing the mountain to open earlier, stay open longer and recover faster – all with the region’s best conditions. The slopes are scheduled to open for the 2006-2007 winter season on Saturday, November 25, weather permitting.

With 45 holes on two championship golf courses, Wintergreen Resort was also named the “Best Golf Course” by the readers of the Washington Post. One of the nation’s premier golf destinations, Wintergreen offers year-round golf at Stoney Creek , a 27-hole Rees Jones layout in the valley, and seasonal play at the highest course in Virginia, the Ellis Maples-designed Devils Knob, an exquisite mountaintop layout at 3,850 feet elevation that is known for cool summer temperatures and outstanding tee-to-green conditions.

During the winter, Wintergreen guests have the unique opportunity to take advantage of the resort’s award-winning golf and snowsports on the same day. Because the slopes are on top of the mountain at nearly 4,000 feet while Stoney Creek golf course sits in the valley roughly 3,000 feet below, many guests “ski and tee” on the same day at Wintergreen Resort.
